A friend of mine has befriended a fellow who claims to have several years active duty under his belt. The fellow said he was a Sergeant First Class and had served in Iraq. He says he left active service and joined the National Guard. My friend says the fellow claims to have seen combat in Fallujah and has more that thirty confirmed kills to his credit. He also claims to have been a "Ranger" and received a Purple Heart Alarms are going off for me. Is it plausible that a ground troop would have seen that much action resulting in that much killing? My friend is a wealthy senior citizen who has hired this "veteran" to do some odd jobs. I am somewhat concerned that he may be befriending a scam artist. |
However, it is also entirely plausible that he was involved in alot of ground combat and did kill that many people....its not like it isnt believable. |

Confirmed kills is kind of BSish. Could have a Ranger tab not a scroll. This is rather common in a typical infantry unit. 30 kills is also plausible. Loose ROE and lots of idiots fleeing Fallujah turned some areas into a turkey shoot. Best way to sniff a rat is ask which unit exactly down to company level then where their AO was. Google should come up with some results telling you if it's BS or not. |
I used to hear people in the PX at FOB Liberty talking loudly about their "Confirmed kills" and firefights where they blew a bunch of insurgents away. They usually carried an M-16A2 covered in dust. Same at the phone centers. Lotta combat mechanics and cooks out there...... |
He could be a "1-percenter." Those are the sociopaths, generally. They don't really care about things like normal people do. But in that case, I wouldn't want him around. I think it's more likely he is a macho braggart. Probably a pogue who's primary mission was ensuring latrine serviceability. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Everyone loves a clean shitter. |
