This is an observation that I could be wrong on, so please bring me up to speed. This is NOT meant to be a racial slur thread. First off, if nothing else is said, Barack Obama is not qualified to be POTUS because he is a liar to his own base, has no useful experience to bring to the American voters, and even if he was qualified - I disagree with just about every policy he stands for. But...outside of city, county, and some instances of state governments, are there any black politicians who are known to do good things that are beneficial to the American people, or who have been able to straighten out bad situations? And most of my experience with black politicians has been catastrophic. Other than J.C. Watts, I cannot think of any. The fact that he now supports BHO is beyond me, and I can only think of one reason why he would abandon the values that made him a respected member in Congress If experience, and age, and prior work history, successful or failed marriages, abortion, religion, and pretty much any topic you want to explore is fair game for politicians, why not race? If there were plenty of black governors with records of balancing budgets, cutting taxes, reducing unemployment, improving state infrastructure, improving public school test scores, etc...this would NOT be an issue for me. If there were plenty of black senators or representatives who did anything other than pander to the far left and perpetuated a myth of how their "people" are still held back by white people, it would NOT be an issue for me. But, from what I have observed, most black politicians have taken good situations and fucked them up, or taken bad situations and fucked them up worse, and many play the race card at some point when they feel it is necessary. So, in this election year, BHO already has two strikes against him in that he has no relevant experience, and his policies are dangerous at best. Given that, and my observation that black politicians have a less than stellar track record, is it fair to discuss? I say this out of fear, and use Memphis as an example. When Herenton got elected as mayor back in the early 90's, he promptly began appointing unqualified blacks to city positions in Memphis. But it didn't stop there...unqualified black people began getting "favors" to do work for the city of Memphis. Now, Memphis is basically a shit hole with black people running things who are accountable to nobody, and without checks and balances. If elected, do you believe Obama will offer "favors" for unqualified blacks in say, cabinet positions? Will there be a trickle down effect that benefits black people without merit? I will say again, the reason BHO should not be POTUS is that he is not qualified. Perhaps McCain isn't qualified either, although I agree with much of what he is campaigning on, and adamantly disagree with a few issues he supports or chooses not to address. Why then will BHO receive, in all likelihood, somewhere in the neighborhood of 95% of all black votes? McCain will not receive 95% of white votes. Perhaps this line of thinking is nothing more than ugly bigotry, and if so, then shame on me, and please lock this thread. If this topic merits discussion, let's discuss. Blake |
No.
You do realize he's voting for Obama? |
The part in red: Yes. The fact that you preemptively apologized several times in your own thread illustrates the problem. Guilt. Get over it. Say what you think (within the COC here |
Qualifiers, yes. Apologies, no. Fear of getting banned from this site where I spend way too much time, yes. Guilt, none whatsoever. We do; however, have to qualify topics like these rather than discuss them openly and unabashedly like we would most other topics. Blake |

Perhaps when alot of Black politicians get thier position by earning it and not by either appeasment or some form of affirmative action you will see better qualified people who are quite capable. I always thought Colin Powell was a good leader and similarily even though I dont like her Rice seems highly skilled. As for some of the mayors in the news who seem more ghetto than the slums they run...

I didn't mean you necessarily. Just that any time this subject comes up, people tiptoe around it and act afraid to state the obvious. |
