So, I've been reading about ginseng hunting a lot lately; I ran into a guy i went to high school with a few years and he told me he put himself through college by hunting "sang".

So, who here hunts ginseng?

Any tips?

I always thought it was called "shang". Never looked for wild roots. I used to live in the top ginseng producing county in the US. Everyone just grew it there.

I've hunted a little ginseng and grew some too. The price is up to about $500 per pound or so I've been told.  My fur buyer grew "as wild" ginseng and made about 50K per acre back when it sold for $180 per pound.

Around here it's about the tail end of the season for 'sang. The leaves have turned golden and the seed have dropped.  soon the stalk will wilt away and it will sleep for  the winter.
