With my luck with computers, I should have the Geek Squad on speed dial.

Just got an HP Pavillion five months ago and it's slow as shc!t now.

I could call India for support, but I'm wondering if someone can give me some words of wisdom first.

I've done disk cleanup and defrag.. Doesn't appear much in startup.

I don't know anything about Vista, does it even have a Task Manager? If it does, open it up and click on the Processes tab, see if any programs are running in the background and using up a lot of your CPU and/or memory.

Sounds like it is loaded up with spyware. Check this site out. I got the right software here free to take a trogan off of mine which made it run slower than hell.

click start/run/ type in msconfig
uncheck all that stupid crap you installed that's hogging your resources.
also check your HD capacity, and make sure you have some free space.
delete all your unnecessary junk and defrag once you are done. If you
are an advanced user I would recommend running services.msc and disabling
a few MS apps that you don't need. but chances are you might screw something up.

ETA" you are using CA anti-virus... did you get that from tiger direct? I wouldnt
recommend CA. they are only good for the free 2gb flash card...

Alrighty, I downloaded and ran CCleaner.  So far so good.  No hang ups, keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks everyone.  If problems continue, I'll be sure to post it.
