Anyone else watch this? I marathoned the first five episodes of season one last night. Holy crap, what a great series. If this show is even halfway accurate re: offices in 1960, it was truly a man's world. Boozin', sexin', smokin', and, sometimes, workin'.

And Christina Hendrix is easy on the eyes. There is a rumor that right before she hit it big she did a swimsuit pictorial. |
I remember her as Saffron, Mal's crazy broad, in Firefly. |
She is, she is. Comes off as sharp as a sack full of wet mice, but very pretty. Mad Men needs to introduce a critical plot element than involves a topless pillow fight between her and Diora Baird. |

I like it. I was alive then, and worked in offices a few years later than the time in the series, and it was still just like that. It has some subtle stuff in it. Mom smoking in the baby's room, On a picnic, they leave the trash on the ground, no seat belts, teaching the girl-child to make mixed drinks, not to mention the blatant sexism, intrigue, backstabbing and catty behavior. The best scenes were when Drapper saved the cigarette ad campaign. They were at a loss to overcome the medical evidence, so he comes up with "Hey, It's toasted". And another, when he came up with the campaign for the Kodak "carousel" projector as "a time machine". Brilliant. It's a soap opera with a bite, similar to "Dallas". It won a bunch of Emmey's last year and this year. |
