| I was considering getting a 99-2002 pontiac trans am with the 5.7 in it and was wondering what you guys know about there reliability and strength of the auto tranny. |
buy it, do bolt ons and a 3600 stall and a tune then your gtg for an 11second daily driver. the trans tends to go boom with too much power. its not a money pit unless you do more than a cam and boltons. fyi, get an 01-02 as they came wth an ls6 intake ad dont hve any egr stuff on them. |
I've worked on a lot of T/As. Many were white trash batmobiles. They don't have to be, but they certainly can be. |

My son bought a new 2000 Camaro but that had a 6 speed. It was one hell of a car. He worked on it until it had over 400 rear wheel horsepower. He beat the pure living shit out of it untill he got rid of it. Never had any problems with it. I have 2000 with a V6. 75000 & I have never had any problems with the auto transmission. Mike |
This reason - www.converter.cc/converters/street/GM/1/ I had a Super Yank 3600 on my 99 Formula. No issues with the transmission. I had a tranny cooler installed. Also had it lowered 1.5 inches, subframe connectors, BMR trailing arms & panhard rod, Borla exhaust, intake, cross drilled rotors etc. Never touched the engine and in made 316 rwhp on the dyno. I miss that car. Only problem I ever had was an annoying oil leak. |
You're missing out on half of the driving experience if you have an automatic. |
