That was exactly one week before I was born. |
I don't think the OP was making light of the Cole incident. I think he was finding the whole Qaddafi "line of death" thing silly and I interpreted it as a celebration of the time when we had a president who had the balls to fuck up anyone who challenged us. I loved the 80s. |
When was that? ![]()

It is two days after I was born |
Damn right, the seeds of our present problems were sown by Reagan |

Interesting. Also interesting that this comic was published one day before the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. As we all remember, that story would dominate the news for quite some time. I also gained an extra measure of respect for Ronald Reagan after hearing his excellent speech to the nation following that tragedy. I still consider it one of the most moving speeches I ever heard. |
It goes back quite a bit before Reagan. |
Fixed! |
I've seen stupid things typed here, but this take the top prize I lost a few friends that October Morning, if you are going to point fingers, better start with Komrade Karter
|
I was a senior in high school that dreadful day. My first room mate in the fleet survived the bombing. He was supposed to be off watch, but couldn't sleep. He took his buddies radio watch and his buddy was killed sleeping on the cot next to his. RIP Brothers. Semper Fi ![]() |

I was begining to think maybe 'ol Aimless had gone over to the dark side. |
I'm not pointing fingers of blame at Reagan, I'm just wondering what did Reagan do "to fuck up" those who bombed the barracks in Beirut, as alluded to in the post I highlighted in red? And I agree - we really STARTED this whole mess with radical Islam because of Carter. In lots more ways than just his handling of the Embassy take-over in Iran. |
My 29th birthday. |
I hadn't realized that. I remember the cartoon on that, too. An astronaut, in his space suit but with the helmet off, sits on a box of somekind, his head in his hands. In the background stands an empty Space Shuttle launch pad. Next to the astronaut stands a little boy, his hand on the astronaut's shoulder. The boy is saying, "Dad, I still want to go..." I was a senior in HS during all this... |
No sh!t...surprised Aimless posted that. |
|
The Beirut pic? I was in OSUT at Ft. Benning when that took place. The OP's cartoon? I had already been in Panama for 2 years and was helping out with the BN Infantry Rifle Match. Pretty cool "detail" I was put on, supporting that. Some guys had flown down TDY from the 5th Army shooting team and were actually running the match as well as eyeing up prospective candidates for their team. |
And I thought I was one of the young guys here still being in my 20's. |
Hardly, it was Carter. Reagan made only that one mistake in 8 years of wins. If sarcasm, it doesn't read that way. |
You are correct in the assertion on whole Reagan was not strong enough in dealing with terrorist and is not a model to imitate on that front. |
Chernobyl Accident happened in April IIRC The Space Shuttle Challenger actually went down the very next day Jan.28 |

Anyone remember this one: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/1653848.stm I remember being on alerts with QRF after this happened. |
