I'm in a strange predicament now. I'm about ready to be offered a job that I really do not want. Yet tomorrow I have an interview for a job I do want, and I do feel very confident that I can obtain the position. I have not been offered the job that I do not want yet, but I will be offered it in a day or two it seems.

This is a predicament I simply have never been presented with. What say the hive mind?

Interview for the job that you want and turn down the one that you don't, unless the job that you don't want pays $1,000,000/yr and in that case take the job you don't want and forget about the interview.

It doesn't, it pays $13 an hour, and there is about a 45 minute drive time. It's in an industry I've been steadily trying to get out of for awhile. I know it's a no brainer, but I just feel like I'd be doing them dirty.

For the job you don't want, make sure they give you the offer in writing.  If it the written offer it does not say we need a response by XYZ date, then simply call them up, tell them you've received the offer but will need a few days to think it over.  Hopefully at the end of those few days you'll have a job offer in hand for the job you do want.

If not, try and delay a couple more days.  Or if worse comes to worse, take the job you don't want so you at least have some income and when a better one comes along take that one.  We had that happen at my employer.  Manager was supposed to start, he was here 2 days, then skipped out because a job offer came along from a better employer and if I was in his position I would have done the same thing.

Just turn them down then. When it comes to business in most cases, they have no loyalty to you, so why should you feel loyal to them?

You've got to look out for you. Don't be unhappy if you don't have to be.

just tell them that you have another interview and that job was your #1 choice and the one they offered was your #2 choice, if they really want you they will wait

Well, you do make a very realistic point. They haven't even sent me drug test paper work yet, which usually takes a few days to process, but tomorrow they want me to stop out and correct a paper work error, which I assume after that, everything else would get moving along, I.E. drug test, background check, etc.

So, I guess I should just wait and see how the interview tomorrow goes.

QFT.

The only person who looks out for number one is number one.

The only person on the planet who gives a shit about your retirement is you.

Period.

Well, maybe obama, but I don't believe him.

If you get the first offer, tell them you want a few days to consider their offer.
