I know it won't mean anything to most of you, but for those of you who have been to Arches National Park in Utah (one of my favorite places in the whole country), and have hiked the Devil's Garden Trail, Wall Arch collapsed in the last few days.  Kinda sucks...I was just there last month.  Oh well, at least my son got to see it before it was destroyed.

Sad.  Reminds me of the Old Man of the Mountain, which I never got to see before the nose went.

Don't worry.  Some congressman will attach an earmark to an omnibus spending bill that authorizes repairs.

Oh no! I was just in Arches a month or two ago.  I have some pics of Wall Arch - I'll look for them later..

I was there back in June, but didn't have much time so I missed out on the Devil's Garden trail.

Probably just natural erosion.

It's Nature.

Shit changes.

I wish I had gotten a chance to see it though.

It's a fantastic place, created by Mother Nature's sand blasters. This one must have been worn a bit thin over the centuries.

Yup, nature in action. Geology is a bitch.

There are thousand of arches in the park. Eventually all of the existing arches will collapse. You can see where new ones are forming all over the park though.

Nope, it's Bush's fault.

Gore could have saved it had he elected him President in 2000.

Note to self, do not stand under arches.

It would have really sucked to be walking across that thing when it collapsed.

Bush's fault.

Obviously this a a DIRECT result of the failure of Republicans to CONSERVE our natural habitat! It must NEVER change!

Wow the last time I was there was 2000.  I have a ton of pictures from there but they are film so I would have to scan them.

One of my favorite places to visit. I need to get back there.

If the earth wasn't warming to catastrophic levels the rock wouldn't have expanded which in turn caused stress points to weaken the arch.

This is a prime example of why we need to remove our dependence on fossil fuels and tighten emissions regulations before all of our rocks break.

Here is a shot I took in 2005.
I took theredgoat, mojo, fagarak and boomhozer with me on this trip.
Been to the Arch 8 times now. It's my favorite national park.

I don't suppose there is any point (or even WAY) to repair it?

Yeah, I know nature is a bitch, but damn....... to lose something like that.

I guess someone might try, but it's a waste of time.  Arches are transitory structures.  Just enjoy them while we have them, I guess.

It really is an incredible park.

If so, what the hell happened? Sound like a great story.
