so im shopping on gunbroker for 1911's and i see a SW 1911 that says its "NY compliant".  what does that mean??  im guessing some sort of unecessary safety of some sort?

It means that it comes with a fired shell casing from the factory for compliance with the NYSP COBIS System. Theyve spent $28 million for the system and it has helped "solve" (2) crimes. One was a "prohibited use of weapon case" and the other, a "shots fired" case from a stolen gun.

Not bad for $4 million a year huh?

probably has to do w/ NY's requirement for the firing pin drop safety (which the SW 1911 does have) and the extra spent casing for lab tests (which dont work)

It has two fired shell casings for the NYSP to catalog into CoBIS
