So I installed MS VPC on my computer with the intention of using a clone to run games in a separate window while doing other things on my computer.  I've got it up and running, but I can't get the sound to work.... anyone have any input on this?

Does the sound not work in the virtual OS, or just the game?

If you shut down the virtual machine, and go into the machine's options, is the sound "hardware" listed?

Have you installed the VM add-ons?

With the virtual OS booted, look in the "Hardware Manager" and see if the sound device hardware is listed.

Ya, i installed the addons, which got the sound working, now it doesn't want to read the game CD.  methinks i'm just going to try to crack the game so it'll run w/o the CD.  probably be the best in terms of resources too.  I gave the VM 1600mb of ram, which is more than enough to run the game in question (C&C Generals).  It's nifty, I just need to tinker with it more.

Will it see any CD in the VM?

Adding the add-ons mounts a "fake" CD drive. You may have to switch back to mounting the real CD drive.

Also, to cheat the CD drive:
- Rip the CD to an ISO image file
- You can mount an ISO as a CD drive in VM
