Whatever you think about the man or drugs, Fear And Loathing is an amazing book.

Possibly the best book ever. Eta: The best book ever.

I suppose I will forgive you for the error in the thread title since you're drunk...

Just this once.

I've never read the book, only seen the movie.  Some great quotes in there though, I assume they're in the book as well.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know.

There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

"Oh don't stop here, this is bat country".

I really miss the good doctor. I like to think of him and Warren Zevon somewhere, high as kites together.

My favorite of his was "Hell's Angels".  It was eerily accurate and really captured the outlaw biker mentality better than anything ever.

Oh, and "Generation of Swine" was almost prophetic in the way he declared that Bill Clinton was some kind of sexual monster.  He truly had a finger on the pulse of American politics.

I liked this one very much.

Of course, I also liked "Razor's Edge" with Bill Murray. I just "get" him as an actor, I guess.

I think you are thinking of Better than Sex.  Generation of Swine was a collection of essays and I don't remember there being an essay about Clinton in there.

My favorite quote of his:

"Some people will tell you that slow is good-and it may be, on some days...but I'm here to tell you that fast is better. I've always believed this, in spite of the trouble it's caused me.  Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube.
That is why God made fast motorcycles ..."

"That is the attitude of the New Age superbike freak, and I am one
of them.  On some days they are about the most fun you can have
with your clothes on.  The Vincent just killed you a lot faster than
a superbike will.  A fool couldn't ride the Vincent Black Shadow
more than once, but a fool can ride a Ducati 900 many times, and
it will always be bloodcurdling kind of fun.  That is the Curse of Speed
which has plagued me all my life.  I am a slave to it.  On my tombstone
they will carve, "IT NEVER GOT FAST ENOUGH FOR ME." "
