sorry, no pics.. but the thread last week (with the cottonmouth in the garage) has me wondering.. since last Sunday I've seen the Prairie Rattlesnake, Several Bull Snakes and even a baby snake(dark gray, I didn't stop to look) Today there was a Bull snake working its way across the path, a lady biker was concerned it was a rattler, but I got in at safe closer range, but it was just a bull snake. anyone else seen an increase of snakes out and about lately? I've seen more this week then in years past. |

YES, much more this year! I'm an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, and I've ran across quite a few . Just yesterday while fishing, I almost stepped on a 4.5 ft copperhead who swam out from under a partially submerged log I was stepping on. Last month I stepped within three feet of a large cotton mouth sunning himself on a bouder. Add these to the many non-poisonous snakes I've come upon, and it seems their numbers are up. At least for me. In years past, I was lucky (or unlucky as it were) to stumble upon one or two poisonous snakes a summer. Hopefully I've reached my max for this year. I do think people are more reluctant to kill them now than in times past. Maybe we've been conditioned by the greenies to not kill that which should be destroyed. |

I live in a giant swamp you guys call Florida so snakes are pretty much a weekly occurrence. However THIS could get interesting. I have walked on top of Cotton Mouths that have the girth of a mans forearms and had a rattlesnake thump my boot before ( and yes a squealed like a girl also), but if one of those big mother crawl under my tree stand.. I am shooting it. |
