I was reading a chart in my cardiologist's office last Thursday. Increases HDL 14% Increases LDL 4% I THINK the chart says it decreases triglycerides, but can't remember if or by how much. I'd eat more fish but the majority in the stores here comes from [drumroll...........] China. I believe the fish oil itself is not beneficial, but the Omega 3 fatty acids involved are. Whatever study the chart was based on may or may not be confirmed by other studies. Pills aren't the magic bullet. A healthy lifesytle is more important. And genetics is the wild card. |

It makes my skin a lot better plus the lipid profile, like the others have said. There is a big quality difference between various fish oils though Check the epa and dha content of the oils, supposably the epa should be up there around 1000 mg/serving for ortho issues. The body can convert dha to epa though. dha is for the brain and nervous system. If you compare the cheap walmart fish oil to a quality fish oil you can see the difference. I get molecular distilled fish oil in a bottle, it's cheaper that way and is a higher quality oil. I also have the gel cap stuff too. I get the nsi stuff from vitacost.com. Fat, unlike "carbohydrates" are a nutrient. Besides their energy constituant. carbohydrates contribute nothing. People have been brainwashed by the "complex carbohydrate" hype into thinking carbohydrates are actually good for you, like a vitamin. In actuality, it's the other part of the "healthy" food that has the vitamins, a carb is simply a carb, consume too much and you get fat. EFA's are essential fatty acids and are required by your body. You don't need a lot of them but there supposably is supposed to be a balance between the omega 6 fatty acids and omega 3 fatty acids. Our diets have too much of the omega 6, which contributes to our diet related health problems. The "Mediterranean" diet is rich in the "good" fats, so even though they eat a lot of "fatty" foods, it's the good kind. My lipid profile was kind of bad a few years ago, I did it when I started trying to eat healthier again. Even though my diet was very low in fat my LDL was still high. I could not see how it was possible to have high triglycerides as I was consuming very little fat. I added "healthy" fat and got that margarine "benecol" and it drastically changed to a good lipid profile. I also use flaxseed oil in food and cooking and put ground flax seed in my cereal. |
Don't take flax seed if you take a Statin. Not a good mixture. |
| Great for your heart and blood, good for your joints and connective tissue, and good for your brain and mood support. Every morning I mix two teaspoons of lemon flavored fish oil with 4T of vanilla whey powder, 4T of milled flax seeds, and a scoop of Green Vibrance. I'm in my 50's and on no meds whatsoever. My blood work is optimal. |

Here is a very good article I ran into on wikipedia about omega 3's. It explains why and how it reduces inflamation, mood, and heart disease among other things. Instead of just blurting big words it refers to studies and footnotes them, it also explains molecular configurations, something that is talked about a lot but most of the people doing the talking don't understand what they are saying. It discusses that balance thing that I had mentioned and goes into detail of why there is a balance and what it all affects. It discusses flaxseed and the mechanism of how it is beneficial. This should answer everyones questions. It's one of the best articles on the subject that I have read so far. |
Flax oil is not a very good way to get usable Omega 3s. Try this instead: www.coromega.com/index3.html No fish burps! |
|
Super shake: 12 oz organic soy milk 1 tbs lemon fish oil 1 tbs flax seed oil 1 oz fresh wheat grass (if needed 1 scoop of super green powder instead) 4 oz fresh organic plain unsweetened yogurt 1 scoop soy protein powder 1 egg 3 oz fruit (if needed) Drink that once a day, and you will notice a difference. |
No fish burps with flax oil either. Why is the coromega product is a better way to get omega-3 oil? |

If Macular Degeneration runs in your family you should take it. It is a major inhibitor for that disease. My family has Mac D and I have a serious eye disease but no sigh of Mac D. My Doc has me on a coctail of Fish Oil, Beta Carotine, and Lycopine. That is Dr. Dean Brick a lecturer in eye disases at the University of Arizona Hospital. He tells every one of his patients that Mac D can be prevented and those natural substances are the ones that will do it. |
