WTF is wrong with you? Your post sickens me. |
Many people throughout the world were SHOCKED that so many French would abandon their elderly family members during one of the worst heat waves they've ever seen. |
Yes, because saying that everyone dies and not 60% like in the OP is trivializing their deaths Sensitive aren't you.
|
I've died three times tonight...Now, you go and break my heart. My achy breaky heart. |

I was in Europe ( Portugal ) when they had that heat wave in 2000, it wasn't any worse than a normal summer here in the central valley in California. I was at a model glider comp and the other teams from around Europe looked like were going to die up on the hill in the heat, they just weren't used to it. The elderly died because they didn't know to drink a crapload of water, not because the AC didn't work. We were having to clue the Euros in about how to keep yourself hydrated up on the damn hill. |

There was not enough electricity to meet demand during the heat wave. Part of the problem was that France gets 80% of their electricity demands from nuclear power. The heated water used by the nuke plants is held in cooling ponds which is then released into the rivers once they have cooled to a certain temperature. The heat wave caused the water to cool more slowly which had a ripple effect on how much electricity could be generated. That, coupled by the higher demand for electricity caused shortages. People, in many cases the elderly, were not able to handle the higher temps and died as a result. The French didn't surrender. The French do have A/C. Shit just happened. This concludes your accurate history lesson for today. All other blathering may now cease. |

Sensitive aren't you.
