Silver Bear 62 grain .223 zinc plated steel case - anyone use this ammo?  Somebody told me steel cases are a no-no for AR's.

My AR eats Silverbear/ Brown Bear/ Wolf all day just fine. In fact I usually buy silverbear or brownbear over wolf when I can and it has been 100%.

I had about 200 rds of the silver bear soft point stuff. Zero problems, it ran just fine. The burnt powder stinks like ammonia, though.

Steel is an alloy. Your barrel steel IS most likely a chrome-moly alloy with a hardness of HRC 45-52.  The steel used in cases is a low carbon steel of hardness HRB 30-35.  Yes, the B Rockwell scale.  And that is the head of the case.

Steel is one of the most varied materials in properties of all the metals.  It can be as soft as annealed copper or as hard as, well, a file.

Bushcracker now states that wolf or steel cased ammo may void warranty. WTF I had a new rifle, NIB and the carrier key was loose as fuck, and tried to get them to warranty the BCG, No they wanted the entire rifle, shipped back to them and expect a 3 to 4 week turn around. I told the cust service kid to FOAD(not really but I did hang up on him). It took me ten minutes to fix, but you'd think since you opted for their rifle vs others on the market and you have been loyal to BM they would try and rectify the issue(s).

This must be recent, I saw Bushmasters last fall that had yellow pieces of paper inside the box - a recommended ammo list, Wolf was on the list.

The only part of the AR that will wear is the extractor.  The chamber?  It is off the scale of the hardness of steel cases and that is for a BARE chamber.  Chrome plated?  It will not scratch unless you have silicon carbide grit on the cases...not a case hardness issue.

My Colt upper, Colt lower, Colt bbl, Colt FCG and LMT BCG rifle shot Wolf GREAT.  Until one day a case got stuck in the chamber and I had to buy some steel drill rod to pound the case out from the muzzle after soaking it in Kroil.  From that day I have shot only Black Hills or Winchester, out of 10k+ rounds I've had two failures.  One was a bad mag that didn't work in any other rifle.  The second was a broken front take down screw(Colt SP1 lower with small hole upper) which was repaired at the range with a spent .22 Mag casing.  Not saying Wolf is horrible ammo but it isn't the greatest either, so saying that a rifle doesn't work if it can't feed Wolf is like saying your top fuel dragster is broken because it won't run on 87.

Wolf seems to have a few quality control issues. But from what I have shot I had no problems. Well one round didnt seat right. But the mag was from 1990 and needed new springs to begin with . Though I am pretty sure the steel cases are tougher on the extractor then brass. But its a cheap part to replace
