I have a Lee Anniversary single stage press that I am setting up for the first time.

My question is how do I attach a shell holder to the press?  It can't just sit loose on the press, can it?

If anyone can help, I'd certainly appreciate it.

If it uses standard shell holders, it just snaps into the slot in the ram.

Yep, there's a U shaped slot in the RAM.  Lift it up a bit, and the shell holder will snap right in.

my shellholder is knurled, but i think this has to do with case trimming

do i require a separate one for the press?

Yes. If you buy new LEE dies, it'll come with a shellholder, if not you'll have to buy one for whatever caliber you're reloading.

The guy at cabelas gave me .223 dies in the green box.  upon looking at the packaging, this is supposedly the "lite" die pkg, which i dont think includes the shell holder.  did this guy tell me wrong?

My shellholder doesn't look like that.  I think when the guy told me I had everything I needed he was WRONG.

At Cabela's...probably!

Most shellholder are not knurled and do rest or lightly snap into place on top of the ram.  Not all die sets include shell holders.

RCBS doesn't provide a shellholder with their dies. I'm not sure what a "lite" die set is. 2 or 3? Full length die or neck sizing only?

Looks like I'm going to have to make ANOTHER trip up to Cabela's....

Thanks y'all.

RCBS doesn't provide a shellholder with their dies. I'm not sure what a "lite" die set is. How many dies did it come with? 2 or 3? Full length die or neck sizing only?

No they are not RCBS; they are Lee dies, even though they are in a green box.

Upon reading the little label inside, it says that this box contains dies only, no crimp die, no load data, and no SHELL HOLDER.  Dammit!

Looks like I need to go back and get a #4 shell holder

Did you buy a reloading manual? (Sierra, Hornady, Nosler, .......) I have never bought dies and got reloading info.

Make sure the sizer die is full length and not a neck sizer only. Get a LEE factory crimp die too if they have one.

You do have a reloading data book and a caliper.

If the shell plate you have is knurled and not like the one in the pic assaultrifler posted then the shell holder you have is for their trimming set up, not for use on the press.

I'm sure i'll get flamed for this, but reloading data can be found on your powder manufacturers website.

Just out of curiosity, are you using a lee powder measure and scale? If you are, I would recommend you replace them asap. I absolutely love my lee reloading press but the powder measure they sell and the scale really suck.

Take a look at the LEE web site for photos and descriptions of their various tools.

I recommend you stop for a bit and do some reading.  The ABC's of Reloading is a good place to start.  The FAQ's at the reloading forum (look under the Armory) has several other recommendations.  You can also find links to on line tutorials that will help until you get a couple of manuals on hand.

This page shows a the part you bought -

A random clerk at Cabela's is probably not gonna work out for reloading advice.

Head on over the to Reloading Forum for all the help you can stand.  We'll get you up to speed in no time.

Hey thanks for all the info, gentlemen!  I think once I get the proper holder I'll be in business.  I will check out the reloading forum.
