I was working at Wal-Mart today (yes, I work there over the summer). I was going to cover the lunch break of a cashier. Anyway, I was waiting around for the cashier to finish up with their last customer so they could sign off and leave. I was not paying a whole lot of attention, just waiting. The other cashiers last customer was trying to buy about $600 worth of gift cards with a credit card. The register spit out a "decline" slip for the credit card. It wasn't going to accept the card so the the guy walked off. Not entirely uncommon...people reach their credit limits or lock out their card for some other innocuous reason on a fairly regular basis... Local police show up later this afternoon and talked to our stores loss prevention manager. Apparently the card was stolen and someone was trying to use it all over town. The cops didn't stick around long, they left to go check at a few different stores. The loss prevention guy figured out I was nearby during the transaction because I signed on to the register immediately afterward. We went to the security office and checked some of the tapes. I was able to tell him that the person using the card was a male, and gave a very vague description. The one camera that had a view of the register is broken at the moment...didn't catch the guy on any of the other cameras either. (our store is switching over to a new system with DVRs soon apparently as the current system is dated.) My normally rather observant self is dissappointed I did not pay closer attention...as in it was really eating at me there for a while. Hopefully the other employees who saw the suspect can be of more help (they had already left for the day when the police showed up). It's sort of small potatoes, as I'm sure CC fraud is rampant...would be nice to see someone caught once in a while though... ![]() Anyway, that was my excitement for the day...face to face with a thief and I'm entirely of no use... I will be more observant in the future...esp. when a card is declined. Hindsight is 20/20... (sorry for the long winded post...haven't been online in a while...fingers are itching to type...) |

I let a crack head return hundreds of dollars of stuff today. He had to show me his ID, now I know his name, who drops him off, their plate #'s, etc etc. At the returns line all I can do is deny him, if I let him go, void his store credit when he leaves (making his time and effort useless) he will come back to steal another day. |
