So, is it illegal to CCW, without a license, on your own property? My brother in law was out smoking the other night and noticed a car parked behind a bush at the end of his driveway. Well, he watched them for a bit, and they slowly crept down the block and left. Right now my wife and I live in an apartment, and I've contemplated carrying around the house as there has been an increase in break ins around here. I realize I can do it in my house, but what about in your yard?

I should think so.

Some states might have something like, "In view of the public" like getting in trouble drinking on your front yard.

Ok, I may also post this in the hometown section just in case.

State laws vary, but you can generally CCW on your property or fixed place of business without a license to carry.

Open carry (regardless of legality) may or may not get you in trouble dpending on your local LEOs.

You can in CA, but of course they have all those restrictive laws, it isn't all that surprising they ban that also.

Oh wait, they don't.

?

In AZ, OC is legal.  Legal means you don't get in trouble with the cops if you do it, cuz it's legal.  I've OC'd around cops here plenty - no problem.  In my yard, on the street, whatever.  Be discreet, don't cop an attitude or look like "bring it on", and they go about their business.

In SC I can patrol the borders of my property with my AR and it's fine.  Some people might get nervous, but as long as I'm within the boundaries of my property it's perfectly legal.

I plan on getting it. I just can't believe it's illegal for me to carry a gun around in my home. Now, granted who will no, especially inside, but still...

Just about every state in the union will say "it's okay".

Everyone here is technically correct.  You can carry a gun provided you aren't otherwise barred from possessing one (you're not a felon, intoxicated, or a minor) on your property.  That means home or business (if you own it).  HOWEVER - if you stand in your front yard with a rifle you will attract attention and probably get a visit from the police.  Other laws like menacing and brandishing will trump your right to have a gun on your property.  And if you get snotty with the cops they will arrest you and take your gun as evidence.  You may not go to prison but you also might not get your gun back - at least not in its original condition and not for some time.

If you see people lurking in a car at the end of your driveway go in your house, arm yourself if you feel the need, and call the cops.

Also, actually discharging your gun in most city limits is a crime.

A car at the end of your driveway is not TEOTWAWKI - the car probably just had teenagers making out in it.
