My mom had nine flowers planted next to the porch. They're not visible from anywhere except our porch (a tree and huge vine are in the way). They were last watered two days ago and were big and blooming. Today, ONE flower is there, and it's a third the size it was two days ago. The rest of it is gone. The other eight flowers are gone. Entirely. Not even roots are left. Even weirder, there is no sign that they were dug up or pulled out of the ground; the soil is undisturbed. WTF? What could make eight plants and 2/3 of another plant just disappear? |
Try again. We have deer, but they're confined in a park a few miles away and rarely leave it because of abundant food and because they're protected there. Besides, our cameras would have shown a deer coming up onto our suburban porch and eating flowers. And why eat flowers when there are actual food crops closer to home? Or when there's plenty of grass and bushes all over the neighborhood? Plus, space is pretty restricted in our yard, between the porch (railed in), trees, vines, fence, lights, carport, and cars. I wouldn't think a deer would risk getting where it can't maneuver. Additionally, the deer would either crop it off at ground level, leaving roots (of which there are none) or pull the whole thing up out of the ground, disturbing the soil (which wasn't disturbed). It's like they just dissolved or something. |
Depending on the flower/plant the deer might want it more than anything else. Some flowers/plants are like deer crack. Of course it could be groundhogs/rabbits, or maybe armadillos/prairie dogs (I dont know enough about dillo's or prairie dogs though) |
Again, no deer. They'd have shown up on the cameras. No groundhogs, rabbits, armadillos, or prairie dogs in our area, but we DO have racoons and possums. Especially possums. |
