We have a state gun site that I read on occasion. I don't post much on there, most of the stuff is the same thing I read on here, but there area lot of local people that I can talk to on there. They posted this nice warning to everybody today........... Effective Immediately... changes to Trading Post access -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Effective Immediately... Only members who have been with us for at least 30 Days and who have made at least 100 posts in the common areas of TGO will be able to post in the Trading Post forums. We have had a large influx of members signing up ostensibly just to buy and sell things via our free classified ads sections. The Trading Post forums were never intended to be the focal point of TGO and are provided just as a courtesy to our active members, putting potential buyers and sellers together. Unfortunately there are a number of members who only had the previous minimum of 14 posts elsewhere with anywhere from 50-100 posts being made in the Trading Post. If this sort of abuse of the system continues to persist, we will consider making the Trading Post forums a perk to our TGO Benefactors or remove the Trading Post forums entirely. Again, the Trading Post is meant to be a courtesy to our contributing members. It is not intended to be a Craigslist type arrangement where anyone and everyone can dump their junk for free. Thank you. Also effective immediately, any member who was... Listed as a "Registered Member" -but- Had less than 100 posts Has been reverted back to "New Member" status. They must build back up their post count in areas other than the Trading Post in order to regain access to the Trading Post forums. From this point forward, posts made in the Trading Post forums, Test forum and New Member Introduction forum do not increase your post count. This means that replying to or "bumping" threads in those areas just to boost your post count will no longer be a way to work around the system. Again, that is an abuse of the courtesy that we have extended to our members and is not going to be tolerated. I realize these changes are going to make some people angry. Too bad. These changes are made and will not be reversed. Any backlash among the members due to these changes will more than likely result in us further restricting the Trading Post forums to use by members with Benefactor status only. Thanks. I joined last year, but only have about 50 post's Posted a Glock and a Les Paul on there last week so maybe a local could read it. what a bunch of dumbasses |

I don't see what the problem is. I'm a member at TGO as well and I'm totally behind what they did. I'm a moderator on a large car enthusiast site and we have similar rules in place. 50 posts and 90 days. It's done to prevent people from abusing the for sale forums as well as help to reduce scammers. The biggest hassle that comes from a rule like that is the noobs that come on and post F/S ads in all the other non-classified forums. As said, their site their rules. |
If the people are selling firearms within the state, then that is their community. They should be promoting and encouraging people to sell their firearms locally and to each other. That is the whole point of a community and coming together. What it sounds like is they have a couple elitist members on the board who are getting pissed that newbies are under cutting their prices. So in the name of "community" they close the doors and kick all the newbies out. They should be ashamed to call themselves a community. They aren't helping anyone but their buddies with these changes. BTW, I've never even been to the site so I have no dog in the fight. However, I do know now that I will never visit the site due to their actions. |
I'm not talking about their physical community. I'm talking about the forum. If you're using THEIR bandwidth for FREE to sell your stuff, you should probably contribute something to the forum. It's their website in the first place, therefore they can do as they please with it. It's not really any different than the "Team Member Only" EE that some guys have suggested we have here at ARFCOM. |
Unless the guy who coded the site is a complete moron hell bent on being stupid, bandwidth isn't an issue. Still, I don't see a major problem with the rules. If it were me, I'd probably take the sign up date into account. |
I agree, We have some |
On the bandwidth thing, I wasn't saying that they'd use too much or slow the site down. Just simply stating that if you're going to use it for free, you should contribute something. |
