Imagine this: You are forced to live in a state that does not allow for carry, or your state passes a law banning carry. Either way, imagine it is illegal for you to carry firearms on you in public.

For those of you who believe you have a right to do so, would you continue to do so in the face of legislation?

Just realized that due to my location, some of you may begin to wonder my stance on such an issue.

I would not, and do not, carry firearms in the face of opposing legislation.

I would if I felt like I was going someplace dangerous enough to need a gun.  I wouldn't just carry every day.

I'd move if it was clear there was nothing I could do to legally change the situation.  This is why we have federalism.

The point of my question was to force you to imagine that you MUST live in a location where there is such a ban.

Its called a thought experiment.

Concealed means exactly that. Choose your weapon and carry method with that in mind-a P32 beats the hell out of harsh words.

If it was a dangerous place to go, dangerous enough to break the law by carrying, I would not go.

Of course, if I did fear for my life, it is better to be judged by 12 than carried  by 6.  Your life will be ruined if you show it, so make it count.

" ... the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

The U.S. Constitution supercedes all other laws, be it state, county or local.

I would consider such "legislation" to be in violation of the Second Amendment, thus it would be null and void.

Continue to carry?  Absolutely.

By the way, someone should show  this thread to Obama and Clinton.

It would depend on the laws of the state in question. I would not risk a felony to carry without a license, but I would risk a misdemeanor.

Yep.  Simple unlawful carry is a misdemeanor in Texas.

It is also a misdemeanor in California if the gun you are carrying is registered with the state. If the gun is not registered with the state then it is a felony.

^^^ if im'a get a felony for a non-crime, then lemme go ahead and make it worthwhile by escalating to the most serious and heinous level I can so that my felony is worthy of the name. See look almighty state, I can be just as irrational and callous as you, only I can cost you more than you can cost me cuz I don't have shit and my life ain't much more than shit to begin with whooooo!! Don't you and your vaunted agents feel so wise and erudite now?!?! Weee!!! You can't cage a free man, you can only kill him!

*if my wild conjecture and extreme what-if-ism offends, then your butt is too tight and you may need some buttsecks to more properly adjust. If this occurs, just grab your ankles and someone will be along shortly to help you.*

Interesting.  Prior to Kentucky's CCDW legislation, concealed carry was a misdemeanor.  However, most people considered it a much more serious crime than speedingl, I think speeding is more heinous.  If I am carrying a weapon, I am in control of its use.  If I am speeding on a public highway, I  am not necessarily in control of the vehicle.

How is this an ethical question? Why is there any question?

I believe the rest of what I want to say would violate the COC.

Because some people believe they are facing an ethical dilemma when faced with conflicting values concerning laws and morality. Such concern has been expressed thoroughly throughout this thread.

Having been a victim of armed robbery in TX prior to CHL laws, involved in a domestic dispute gun fight and mugged (technically assaulted, they didn't get away )

If laws changed where I could no longer legally CCW I would carry without question.

The conflict that I see in this thread is of a practical nature, not an ethical one: will some other fellow with a badge to go along with his gun try to do harm to you for being prepared to defend yourself? That is a valid practical question. Are you more likely to be attacked by a common criminal, or to be killed or arrested for exercising your right to carry against the edict of a state government?

There's nothing implicitly unethical about not following statutes, especially ones that are counter to fundamental human rights. It frightens me that some people believe that just because some clowns got together and wrote something on paper it somehow becomes wrong to act in a manner inconsistent with said clowns' wishes.
