I am moving to Alaska soon and driving from the lower 48. I'll be pulling a 14 or 16 foot trailer with my household goods. Can anyone give me a heads up on what to expect from customs? I read someplace you may need a letter or document proving you are moving to Alaska and not planning on illegally moving to Canada. Also, what about my black rifles? Am I able to just mail them to myself in Alaska? Thanks. Aviator |
Scroll down to section B8 here - www.atf.treas.gov/pub/fire-explo_pub/qa.pdf "A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm" I suggest using (and have) registered mail as described. |

Lots for Americans go to Alaska through BC You need to download and fill out the form . Its only $25 to do it properly. The Canadian Firearms Center are easy to get through via phone if you have any questions Here is everything you need to know for a "non resident" brining guns into Canada www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/info_for-renseignement/non-residents/default_e.asp Get good "deer lights" on your truck. I drive up to Northner BC all the time. Don't worry about using off road lights ( assuming there is no oncomming traffic ) If you fill out the paperwork it will be no problem. You do run the risk of getting searched comming into Canada so don't try to hide anything |
Yeah, but you can't bring anything restricted into Canada. So, no AR-15 magazines with more than a 5 round capacity. No handguns with a barrel less than 4.1" and no mags with more than a 10 round capacity. No .25 or .32 cal handguns, etc, etc, etc. RF |
