My AR has evolved from stock to tacticool and back down to KISS thanks to AR15.com. My budget allows me one firearm at a time so im pondering selling the AR for something in a larger caliber than 5.56. I really enjoy tactical firearms that i can accessorize. I'm not interested in 6.8 or 6.5 or other oddballs, .308/7.62x39 30-06 (popular cartridges) would be preferred. I use my gun for plinking, SHTF, and accessorizing is a fun time consuming hobby.

So, whats out there and what would you choose/recommend and why?

Some of my interests
AK47?
M14?
G3?
With exception of a Steyr AUG maybe? <--- do you guys like them?

No AR variants or bolt guns please, and i really cant keep the AR, im in school and me buying guns/gun stuff is already a bad mis allocation of resources. Have to have some fun though

Thanks

I would recommend keeping the AR and adding to your collection a long range rifle. One of my personel favorites for really reaching out and touching someone is a Model 77- 7mm with a Springfield Armory 2nd generation tatical scope with built in BDC and level. If you would want to shell out an additional $200-$300 get the 3rd gen with illuminated reticle

Now you can get them long distance and short range.

Your budget only allows one firearm at a time?

That sound more like a wife demand.  By the time you buy magazines for each rifle and sell for a loss, etc., just save up and buy another gun.  Sheesh.
