Ok,I ditched my AR but I've got ideas on something...strange. The regular AR upper-what kind of shells can it handle? I know I can fool with the bolt Etc. but just how much shell can I stuff in there?? And before you ask I'm eyeing the single shot lower with no mag well so mags aren't an issue. Also gonna leave the gas system in-it'll eject the shell and (maybe) lock back. And the upper I'm looking at is the DPMS low-pro. Just a mad inventer's raving's here. |
I'm just looking at what's out there already,I know we have .458 Socom,.50 Beowolf (or however it's spelt) 6.8 rem,6.5 grendel,.223 and 7.62X39 and a few others I'm sure. So I'm just wondering how big a round the standard AR upper can take without switching to the AR10 type upper, and since it's a single shot mags are a non issue, just pop open the action and drop the shell in. And a gunsmith will do the work on the barrel and whatnot. A .458 SOCOM actually looks good, gonna read more. |
Well, there is a company that makes a single shot, bolt action .50 BMG upper, here. But .458 SOCOM is a great choice. It fits in a standard magazine, so it's no problem for it to be semi auto. |
That's the weird part of my idea,I'm going to take a regular upper and stick it on the single shot lower,it'll kick the shell out and lock open (I think) then you drop another in and hit the bolt release BANG! loaded. What I'm asking is how long a shell can you stick in an AR upper? sans a mag? just a one shot at a time set up? No I don't want to blow myself up but just wanna see what's possible.Anyway the .458 looks like a little thumper so it may be a project to look at-maybe. |

Sure that should work. After googleing 'single shot AR-15 lower' there are a few California legal lowers that are going for about $180. They don't take a magazine, but look like they can take a LPK and buffer tube kit. But as a cheaper option I would just get a regular lower, and only load a single round in each magazine. You can feed a new round in through the ejection port, and the wider port on the .458 SOCOM will make it that much easier. |

but just wanna see what's possible.
