[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Fallout 3 Gameplay Pics (Page 1 of 2)
A little bit of both. It will fall back to using the good aspects of Fallout 2, from a first person perspective. |
Sounds good. Were the other two games connected to this installment? As in, do I have to play the first to get the second, etc.? |
That I do not know, but I think very likely |
Essentially it focuses on the reemergence of society after the apocalypse. It is a bitter and sardonic series. The precursors were RPG's with turn based combat, however this one will be an RPG with real time first person combat (allowing some pauses for special abilities and the like). Fallout namely was unique in that Its the only game I can remember that truly allowed you multiple paths to victory, you could set out and be the hero, you could kill everything in sight, you could be the sneaky bastard or you could talk your way through every situation. |
It will be set in Washington DC, and the square miles of the world will be slightly smaller than Cyrodill of Oblivion, and you know how big Cyrodill is. |
Not really. In fact even the first 2 games werent all that connected. The main character in the second one was the grandson of the main character in the first one. Thats about the extent that they were connected. So no you really dont need to be familiar with the older ones to play this Hell looking as the pics, it looks like the tech levels are even lower than previous games. And if I remember correctly (I really havent been keeping up to date on the development- to many disappointments in the last 8 years) This takes place a few years after WW3, while the original was some 80 years after the bombs fell. Also the first two took place in southern california and this one starts in virginia or the DC area. Im not sure if Im really all that crazy about them going first person. Im still trying to forget that FPS abomination they came out with a few years back |
Have you spent any time playing Oblivion? Have you seen the mods that are available for it? Bethesda is the perfect company to produce FO3, nobody does an open world better. There will be first and third person views available, supposedly both much more refined than in Oblivion, and an optional action-points based combat system you can toggle in and out of. It will bring the best of the RPG and the FPS together like no other game ever has. This game is going to F'n rock, especially for PC users, there'll be a construction set, that's Beth's deal, so the game will have enormous replayability potential with new content coming online all the time. |
Cyrodill may have more square miles than it's predecessor, Morrowind, but the scale is reduced. If Fallout 3 is DC w/ the same size area as Oblivion, that's cool. IF the scale is the same as Oblivion, that's lame. Btw cool Mad Max shots hehe. ETA removed extra commas. |

Then there's the other game Bethesda is working on, called Rogue Warrior, where you play Dick Marcinko and lead a SEAL team ..... Game Info bethsoft.com/eng/games/games_roguewarrior.html Rogue Warrior is a story-driven shooter that provides team-based tactical combat set in massive, contiguous levels using Unreal 3 streaming technology. Central to the game's single and multiplayer experience is the idea of a freeform battlefield, where players are given the freedom to choose how to complete a given objective, allowing for creativity and surprises, rather than heavily scripted events and tightly contained spaces traditionally used in this genre. An advanced AI system allows NPCs to react and fight realistically, see and hear others, and respond as a team. Rogue Warrior offers a new take on the multiplayer experience, with 10 gameplay modes and a system whereby maps are created using tiles that are selected by each team. Rogue Warrior's tiling system allows users to experience over 200 maps in both day and nighttime settings. In addition, the campaign features solo and on-the-fly cooperative play for up to four players, where anyone can join or leave an existing campaign game at any time without having to go to menus or save progress. In Rogue Warrior, you play Dick Marcinko, leader of an elite SEAL unit trapped behind enemy lines in North Korea on a covert mission to assess the threat posed by North Korea’s nuclear arsenal. When war breaks out between North and South Korea, you must try to lead your team back into South Korea while greatly outnumbered and with no support and limited resupply. Your journey will take you through a variety of never-before-seen environments inside of North Korea, including submarine pens, shipbreaker yards, prison camps, and more. ![]() ![]() |
Fixed. There were tons of bad-ass guns in the first 2. Even stuff that never really hit production, like the Pancor Jackhammer and the G11. Hopefully a M14 gets in...though I don't remember any in the first two... Fallout 3 = tingling pants. |
Dude, it's not like Fallout 3 would even exist if Bethesda hadn't picked it it. Interplay was truly fucked and wasn't going to be producing anything but bounced paychecks. Black Isle Studios was the real brains behind Fallout (and Planescape FTMFW!), and they were all gone before Fallout 3 was even a possibility. I'll take a Fallout 3 that isn't quite the same as the first two over absolutely nothing. |
Bethesda had nothing to do with Tactics, and I'd imagine they understand the reasons why it flopped. Anyway, ever played Oblivion with Deadly reflex enabled? Mighty Majicka? Stealth overhaul? Ocsuros? Point being given a little time you guys will be able to make it whatever you want it to be. But I understand, for some people FO3 would have to be just like 1&2, 10 years out of date, to make them happy. Personally I like what Bethesda has been putting out lately, and I liked Fallout, so I'm not going to bitch & moan until there's something to complain about. |

It's not the the updated gameplay or the fact that Bethesda is producing the game. The problem is that since the first shots were released the game has been fundamentally unfallout-like. Look at the pictures of the super-mutants. Throw-away garbage compared to the designs in FO&FO2. The settings look too busy and typical post-apocalyptic, there's none of that weird Brazil/City of Lost Children inspired architecture. It's cookie-cutter and lame, as it stands now and from the updates I've been seeing, it ain't going to get any better. FO was a game that you could play 100% the way you wanted. It was possible to beat the entire game in less than an hour by shooting straight to the Cathedral with certain skill sets, you could go the entire game without firing a shot, or you could kill everything. I don't think Bethesda can pull this true sandbox concept off. And, remember that when FO was released it took a lot of flak for being outdated and turn-based when it was actually amazingly modern in gameplay and style. |
Actually I kept tactics on TB most of the time. The story sucked, the game was a flop and the combat system left much to be desired. Its not considered canon, but I enjoyed it because any fallout game was better than no fallout game. Of course that idea changed when the first FPS came out. And yes there are the hardcore purists out there (like myself) who werent that crazy about FO2 and wouldve preferred a direct sequel- a new plotline with the same concept as the original. FO2 just had too many lame jokes and cheesy traits (ZOMG- im a fluffer!!1 )for my tastes, but again it was better than nothing.Im not to crazy about the FPS part, but being in the first person I can see how realtime makes much more sense than turn based. as long as they have a decent storyline , obscure references, and dont try too hard to be funny Ill give it a shot. I doubt it will have the same feel or ambiance of the original, but thats just a sign of the times. They have to do something to increase mass appeal because if bethesda stuck to a niche market theyd wind up in the same position as black isle and interplay |

I personally cant wait... I always thought this would have been one of the best platforms for an MMPORG, but it wasn't to be. Somebody else is making a post apocalyptic one, but it just doesn't quite do it from what I've seen. Hopefully this will do it. I am going to be very disappointed if this is a game I can tear up in 8 hours and has no replay value. |

Wow. Looking forward to this one! Fallout was awesome. Never could get into Fallout 2. The beginning sucked. For those who aren't familiar with Fallout, your character grew up in a giant underground bunker (like the ones proposed at the end of Dr Strangelove). A nuclear war happened many decades before, and the inhabitants know nothing about the outside world, as they have been completely isolated. Then a critical piece of equipment begins to malfunction, and you are selected to go forth into the world to try to find a replacement. Very cool story. |
I dropped out of your "master race" about 5 years ago. go console and quit building a computer every 6 months you will be happier I will own this for the 360 as soon as it releases. |
Actually they mustve spent some coin on the voice overs for most of the games. 1, 2, & tactics all had relatively famous people contributing to the major characters. wonder if FO3 will get the same treatment |
Well Oblivion had Patrick Stewart and Lynda Carter ....
|
Yes because Fallout 1 and 2 had amazing graphics. I love Fallout 1 and 2, but everybody seems to forget the graphics were lousy, the game was buggy as hell, and nobody really ever beta tested any Fallout game ever (oh hey half my car just vanished). The story, attitude, and free form (where's my childkiller perk?) is what makes Fallout and little else. |
The fact that folks are still playing fallout and starcraft, which came out years ago, says something. I know Bethesda puts a heck of a lot of thought into what they do, so I am optimistic. Plus, I am sure that they will make Fallout 3 "open", so people will write expansions making it grow for years to come. But that will only apply to the PC version, unfortunately. |

)for my tastes, but again it was better than nothing.
