[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Pay Raises, How Much Do You Get? (Page 1 of 2)

| I am a Govt Contractor and for the past two years I have been on this contract we have gotten a 3.5% and this year a 4.1% pay raise, which equates to $1.24/hr. Anyone else out there get a small raise like this or should I be happy I got one? |
|
I've gotten a decent raise the last two years, considering my wage. It's because my supervisor understands how valuable I am to the place and he's pushed for it personally at HR, bypassing our director (she'll sing your praises but doesn't do a damn thing to get a raise for you). Despite that though I try to save as much as I can, and also try to maintain as much PTO as possible because I know the economic outlook isn't so good and I can get axed at anytime, despite how valuable I am here. Funny thing is, despite a decent raise it didn't seem like I got anything extra on the last pay check, nearly all of it went to fucking taxes! ETA: We normally get a 3% increase but that can go up or down depending on performance and other factors. |

The company I work for has been prepping us for a very tiny raise if any at all. They sent out a notice showing us how much our benefits our cost the company to show us our "true compensation". I am expecting a pay raise somewhere between 0% and 1%. My former boss just took a job with another company for a 50% pay increase plus they usually give out between 6% and 8% annual increases. Needless to say I am looking. The cost of inflation over the last year has been just over 4%. A 1% pay increase means you are actually making 3% less. |

I got 9.5% this year. 4.5% for COLA and a 5% raise for picking up a DBA certification. Normally, we've averaged about 5% per year, including COLA and merit raises. I'm happy about getting the raise, but I'm still underpaid in my field. But at least I went from being in the 5th percentile to being in the 25th percentile. A good step in the right direction. |
I have a 110 mile daily commute so the raise is gone paying for gas. Now we do get a halfway decent bonus each year, but I would rather get more per hour. |
I got 20% then 6%, 6%, 6%, 6%, then a 10% reduction because business is bad. Really bad. A couple thousand people got a 100% reduction, so I've been lucky so far. ![]() There is no "normal" raise. The only way you can compare your salary is to look at others in comparable jobs (adjusted for regional variations) If you are not getting at least 6%, you are not keeping up with inflation. |

I've been working for Uncle Sugar (this time) for three years and four months. I've seen three COLA's for 3,5% per year there abouts, three automatic steps plus a productivity step, two annual bonuses, and a grade level increase. Because of my speciality and location I started with a 25.25% pay increase over other US locations. About +$20K more than I started - still about ~20K less than my last job (but the hours are better here as are my chances for advancement!). On my Fleet Reserve retainer (retirement) I get the same annual COLA increases as the miltary does. At my job teaching university I saw a $10 increase per hour but that was a couple of years ago and the raise there are hefty but few and far between. In today's economy be happy you've got a job and home. |
Note the fact that they tried to give me the Dick In the Ass and it took work to get what was due, thier "prorate" (due to shift change) had me getting 1% less then everyone else. |

'05 3.4% raise and $300 bonus. '06 3.6% raise and $250 bonus. '07 0% raise and $100 bonus. Not looking good for '08, so far. They canceled our company golf outing, cut back our extra pay system, and we aren't getting the same "team building" programs HQ has been getting (think Minnesota Vikings party boat(s) ). If I can just hang in for a few more years of school... And it isn't like I can up and find another job across town for the same pay. I have been told since I don't have my degree (ignoring the seven years experience) I'd be lucky to get $10k less per year. ETA: Wife got a 5% raise, though. I told her another 95% and I can "retire". |
Oh. Well, congratulations on an unblemished record of unpleasantness, then, I guess. |
|
well they promoted me in January so i got about 38 percent there. then in march i got a 5 percent merit raise, plus 2 percent profit sharing. so for the year im looking like 40 percent over what i was making per hour, but realisticly, im about 150 percent becuase i went from part-time employee and student to full-time employee and part-time student. |

Usually 3% a year under the old mange-ment. Depends on the department. The major departments have a path that allow you to essentially double your pay within a year (RAPID turnover), while our department head has a policy of 3-5 years before advancing ONE pay grade. COL pay increases are pathetic in our department, too. I'll quit one of these days. My field is red hot, but I want to stay in this area. |
