watching on the history channel right now. it's about revenge and they had a story on a guy who'd been shot with a shotgun then hung and left to die. he survived and ended up killing the guy who did it. he cut the guy's ears off and used one of them for a watch fob. what i wanna know is, do you have to treat an ear somehow? wouldn't it rot and smell? how WOULD you go about treating an ear or other body apart?

ps i like keith carradine more than david carradine as the host...

Put it in a bowl and cover it with salt until it is totally dry. That would preserve it.

Preserve it like cow hide. Ever have a leather watch band? Same idea.

Tan it like you would cow or pig skin to make leather.  Human skin is very much like pig skin.  Preserving it with salt would just mummify it.

Regular salt would do when it comes to mummification, but road salt is probably better.

You'd treat it with tannic acid, which converts the skin into leather.  Tannic acid is found in oak tree bark and is it also found in tea.  Tannic acid is also known as tannin.
