While I am sure this is old news to most of you, the movie was awesome. The subtle hints of whats going on today mixed with awesome plot line made for definitely one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. If you haven't seen it, I highly suggest you do so ASAP. |

Dude, Remember, remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot. We see no reason Why Gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot. Guy Fawkes. Run a search. It ain't new. Every 5 November is a day that rebellion is somewhat tollerated in the UK at a small level. Simply because the 4th of July hurts MORE!!!! Glorious Fucker he was. If the legend holds true. If it ain't the truth, it oughtta be. The movie was just modern media covering an old story. S-28 |
Actually it was rebellion from a tyranical and corrupt government. This is freedom not anarchy. Kind of reminds me of our revolution. Fighting tyrany is not anarchy. There is a difference. But still don't like how they did the movie. Concept was good. |
Care to el;aborate? It's been YEARS since I read the original, but I thought it stayed pretty true... |
Are you kidding me? The story was entirely different. V's and Evey's relationship was completely different than that portrayed in the movie. Not to mention the several intricate characters that were part of the fascist regime, which were never introduced in the movie. And let's not forget Mr. Finch's epic acid trip. |
The tyrannical and corrupt government the original comic book was referring to was Thatcher's GB.
|
No, but that's how the film makers see Christians and the right wing....and why I found the movie a disgusting and overt lefty film. |
True...but if social conservatives made the movie. There would have been homosexuals raping little boys, gun owners and christians being jailed etc. Hollywood is mostly libiral, and will of course make themselves the good guys. I still like the movie.....

The "themes" were leftist issues, e.g., having the bad guys be religiously motivated zealots and the Koran punishable. But if you look at the reviews this got and ask liberals for their reaction, they HATE this movie. Even though the "themes" were in their camp, the MESSAGE -- that the people are in charge and that they have the righteous ability to resist and overthrow, scares the shit out of them in terms of the level of CONTROL they know they'll need to have to force down some of their most basic liberal programs. They don't like V is for Vendetta because it tells people not to be sheep, to question the bullshit put out by the purveyors of news, and of the importance of ideas. |
ETA, I just used post 25000 to discuss masterbation habits of liberals. |
Not really, true Anarchists are just as bloodthirsty and intolerant as so-called 'Fascists'. During the Spanish Civil War, Anarchist death squads killed thousands in the sections of the country they controlled. |
|
That movie F-ing rocked. It doesn't really matter if the oppressors are right- or left-wing. Both can be oppressors. Besides, the graphic novel was originally written to be anti-Thatcher, not anti-Bush or anti-US. It makes sense to stick with the right-wing stuff. |
|
I guess I missed the leftist view of the movie. What I saw was a people scared into surrendering their rights to a tyrannical government in the hopes of safety and a revolutionary leading them to freedom from said government. I saw no leftist connotations in the movie, but I guess I wasn't looking for them. ![]() Can't please everybody. |

V was the biggest shit pile movie ever made. It was the most liberal movie I have ever seen. It made Michael Moore movies look like Fox News. It was also the gayest movie ever made. All of my gay co workers LOVE the movie, as it speaks to them. As you know, the next time a facist .gov rounds people up, it won't be blacks or jews. It will be homosexuals .

When she goes to see the bishop or whoever the religious leader is. He thought she was a prostitute. Maybe it wasn't quite a schoolgirl uniform, but it was a short skirt and knee-high socks. Either way, Natalie Portman is hot. |
Yep, you're right. 'Themes' is what I meant, not message. |
