I am wanting to brush up on my language skills.  It has been a few years since high school.   Has anyone use the Rosetta Stone software?  It is pretty expensive.  I am wondering if it is effective.

Exepensive, but works good, according to the thread I read here earlier today......

If you are .mil, you can get it for free.

It works ok. There is a point where you have to use a microphone for the software to "check" on you actual speaking skills.

I tried to use the one offered by AKO, but it felt kind of force-fed. It didn't have any introduction, it just started off showing me pictures of a boy and a girl and said how to say it in Arabic, then it would show them pictures of them eating and expect me to be able to say "The Boy is eating" in Arabic.

Didn't care for it too much, but I now know "waladun" is boy. Didn't pick much else up from it, though.
