"Top Ten" just listed the Abrams as the second best tank ever?!? I can't wait to see what they think is #1! |
|
As I understand, it probably wouldn't make the top 5 if not for extraordinary training on the part of it's crews. Would you like to know more? |
You are, of course, right. I just think the Abrams was not given the credit it was due in this TV show. I think we (The USA) give our soldiers the best equipment ever devised. It pisses me off when our technology is dismissed by the eggheads that have never heard a shot fired in anger...or had their asses in foxholes in fear of their lives. |
I suggest you take a look at what Manic_Moran has to say on the subject, FWIW... The M1A2 SEP is what you get when you take a great 30yo tank design and upgrade it with whatever funds you can scrape together... There is still much room for improvement, but the fact that it is still 'competitive' (not necicarily superior) to modern vehicles designed DECADES later says something about the original vehicle)... Still MUCH room for improvement... |
Depends... There is a 'zone' where that is true... But regardless of the crew (within reason), a monkey-model T-72 in open flat desert, 1-v-1 vs an Abrams, is going to die... Simply because of a lack of cover & the 'range overmatch' in favor of the Abrams.... |
| The show doesnt compare modern vehicles to older vehicles. IT compares them to vehicles that were around at its own time. T-34 was an awsome tank for the time that was easy and cheap to produce that took little training. WHile the abrams is a awsome tank it is very hard/expensive to produce. The show is not saying a t-34 can destroy a Abrams |
