Now that was a good comic series. Too bad it would never be published in this day and age

Anybody stupid enough to go into combat in a Stuart should come back to haunt it. They damn sure wouldn't last long in that thing.

My brother has the entire series of Haunted Tank comic books.
He also has the entire series of Sgt. Rock comic books.

He bought most of them before comic books prices really got stupid.

The haunted tank was haunted by the ghost of JEB Stuart.  And as for lasting long... they were the main feature in G. I. Combat, which ran for 26 years.  And they survived by using the cunning technique of shooting German tanks from BEHIND.  Then they upgraded to a Sherman, and REALLY kicked butt.

If you count the number of German tanks the Haunted Tank took out over those 26 years, it's probably greater than the total number of tanks Germany fielded in the entire war.  G.I. Combat was a double sized comic for most of its run, and had 2 Haunted Tank stories per issue, and they usually took out 2-3 panzers in each story, not to mention numerous machine gun nests, artillery emplacements, halftracks, trucks, pillboxes, not to mention several dozen ME-109s shot down with the commander's .50 machine gun.

Cool....I remembered reading the comic but could never remember the title of the series.  Gen. Stuart would make an appearence and get the tank commander out of harms way while in N. Africa, correct?

Oh, no man.  They started in Africa but fought in every European theater including Russia, somehow.

they also had a couple of different tanks.
I remember the Stuart, and a Sherman then back to a Stuart
Heck the commander rode a Renault for one issue, a WW1 vet helped them out when the Stuart was disabled.

my favorite comic

I hear THAT, man!
And most of those German tanks were Tiger Is.  The Stuart's 37mm main armament could take them out with a point blank shot to the front glacias EVERY time!

ETA:  Hey! Anyone remember "Star Spangled War Stories"?  WWII PLUS Dinosaurs!  Now THAT'S a hard combo to beat when you're eleven years old.

FUCK.  You HAD to go and remind me.

When I deployed to Europe in 1985, my Mom and (new) wife went through my stuff.

They burnt ALL my magazines (my Mom was behind that), only about half of which was porn.

They burnt up a LOT of old National Lampoons, some very early Soldier of Fortune (back when it was about Mercenaries) and ALL my comic books.

I had quite a few G.I. Combat copies, along with some first editions.

I remember the first issue where they were in the tail of a column. Said column was pounced upon by Stukas and wiped out.  They went on their mission and defeated a bunch of Panthers.  The commander, Jeb, was the only one who could speak with the ghost of JEB Stuart.

I also remember when their Stuart was kaput and they put together a Pershing-like tank out of parts from the scrapyard.

Star Spangled War Stories featured The War that Time Forgot (that's the one with the dinosaurs), Unknown Soldier, and Enemy Ace.  DC Comics eventually changed it and retitled it to focus on the Unknown Soldier, War that Time Forgot became a backup series in Weird War Tales.

Great comic book! I've always wanted a Stuart. I like the lines of the M3A1 better than the M5, though.

I remember the issue when they had to up against a blood red German tank.  Its guardian ghost, for lack of a better phrase, was Attila the Hun

I seem to remember a few issues printed back in 1991 or so when the Haunted Tank was an M1 and fought in Desert Storm.  I can’t remember if the Tank’s CO was the grandson or what.  Maybe somebody knows.

good stuff, they were one of the few comics that were ok for me to have.

i wish they would wise up and reprint all of them in a leather bound edition or something they have to be able to reprint them.
