We have this plane(OV-1 Mohawk) at one of our American Legions here in MN. Just wondering if there are any people who had experience with this type of aircraft? It went into production in 1959 and was even used during Desert Storm. Retired in 1996 I believe. Anyone?

Thanks

The OV-10 you are talking about is at St Francis American Legion Post

I can't remember the name of the group @ at Anoka County Airport that restored it, but they had some info on their website about it

Father-in-law flew one for several years after he left Rotary wing. He enjoyed it greatly. Intercepted signal intelligence and sent it on for analysis.

Used in Vietnam and around the world during the cold war for ELINT.  Faster than it looks.

I think they look awesome. The one we can get right up to looks built well. Looks like a little tank with wings. I even read that one of them during the Vietnam war shot down a Mig with this little bird.

Have you looked at this website?  Good info.  There was a chapter at the Anoka county airport back in the early 90's.  I use to volunteer and help out.  Awesome aircraft.  I believe the guy who headed that chapter passed away a while back, and that these guystook over.  I could be wrong, haven't been back there for years.  If you are ever close by ANE, stop on in and take a look.

OV-1D was rated at 305 mph - pretty fast sloth!!!

A sales job, but interesting - the thing was quiet incoming.

My Dad worked on them.  He said that the pilots used to joke that if the engines went out that you should look down between your knees.  Wait for it... Because what you saw directly below was where that fucking thing was gonna land!  Dad said they glide like a boulder!

One of the few airplanes that can reverse its props enough to back up and taxi in reverse. Its always a big hit with the airshow crowds.

I worked with a guy who flew in one.  He wasn't the pilot, but the guy who operated all the electronic gizmos.

He never said a bad thing about them and had a whole lot of praise for them.

The guys I knew that flew them wore a patch that said, "What would YOU do with three pieces of tail?!?"
