I've been at my job for ten years. We've always played the lottery a few times a year when the jackpot gets large. We put a sign up sheet by the time clock and an envelope to put the money in and everyone contributes $5. They went to buy the tickets yesterday morning and found $195 missing. The maintenance department has been reporting missing tools lately. When I started there were about 40 employees and it was like a big family. Now there are over 80 and some of them are temps. The company president put out a letter saying how disappointed he is that someone would steal the employee's hard earned money, but they won't call the police. It's discouraging. I took all of my personal valuables out of my cubicle today. I hate to say it, but I think we need surveillance cameras there. It's not much of a rant, but I had to tell somebody. |

You know whats even worse than that...I worked at a nursing home and the employees would steal the elderly peoples belongings all of the time. One even stole an elderly womans (who was visiting her husband) wallet out of her purse with pictures of her grand daughters baby pictures that cannot be replaced, $80, SS#, Drivers Lic, credit cards, etc. One stole money out of a residents room. Someone stole a calendar off of a residents wall. If I would have ever found out who it was there would have been a beat down! |
get a hidden camera system..after workers ripped off my digital camera a few months ago right off my office desk..Ive been pissed off ever since.. A few other things stolen to, anyways had a security company come in last week with some quotes for hidden cameras (fake smoke detector, sprinkler heads, fake thermostats..you get the idea) 3 cameras with DVR all hardwired would cost around $1700... price might be more or less in your area though... not a bad investment for peice of mind... |
Thats not too bad, I'll bring that up. |

I hear ya. We had a nurse at work that was stealing money and meds but never caught her red-handed. The other nurses hated her guts and eventually we were able to can her. It's very frustrating to deal with a situation like that, especially when it goes on for a while.

I caught my payroll secretary stealing money last week as well... worked 31 hours and was marking on her cheque 38... she said she "needed the money" because her husband was out of work and they had no food..... some people i suppose think that because they have a "reason" its not theft... unless its locked up and bolted down its as good as gone... even then all you will do is slow down a determined scumbag...

Temps can be some weird people, sadly, many don't have much compulsion against a bit of pilfering because they don't figure they will be there long and build any working relationships. PITA to figure out which one it is and one really doesn't want to diss all because of one POS. I'd say a lock box for the cash with a slot would be better then nothing or handing the $$$ directly to ONE person designated the buyer. Or, just dump the thing altogether. |
that's pretty damn low |
| Awhile back someone stole my pocket knife. Used it to open some boxes and put it on a table and walked off. Went for it again 30 mins later and remember that I left it on the table. Went back and it was gone. With the people I work with, I should have known better. |

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is when Investigations requests my help to plant covert cameras. Once a pattern is found we will get one of our "A" list employees to to let me creep into their work area in the middle of the night to plant hidden cameras, and a little "bait" (the Ipod works the best so far). Where I work it is most likely housekeeping or security, and I am in the security department |
I had a relative that passed away last year. She was in the home for about 6 years, and yes some of the lowlifes that work there had stolen money at various times, and the remote control for a new TV we bought her. |

When I worked for one of the telcos we came in one Monday and found that someone had stolen all the memory out of the computers on an entire floor. At the time it was about 300k worth of memory. Nothing worse than a thief. I really think we should bring back flogging for things like petty theft, drunk driving, shop lifting, etc. A few stripes might make some of these assholes think twice. |

You can't trust anyone... I ran the " coke / candy " ops for the facility. I'd store hot soft drinks in a separate office, only to find ( multiple occasions ) some asshole rips open the boxes and steals 4 sodas.... blatantly leaving the open box. Money ?... sheesh.. they will take it if they have a slim opportunity. Food / snacks ? They will eat it for free. Best thing to do is either make it harder to take, or VIDEO the crime, and get rid of them. |

I used to run a small "honor system" vending service at my work. For a while, I was making some decent fun money, then, in the space of weeks, almost all of my inventory was stolen. I'm 99% sure I know who the person/persons were, but I can't touch them because they're the only females in the office, and happen to both be legal mexican immigrants. I say 99% because I saw one of them take stuff multiple times, and not pay for it. Not a huge deal as most people did that, and they paid when they had the cash, but I never saw this woman put $ in. Neither work there anymore. Luckily because others were fine, in the long run I still made $, but I've since closed it. Work thieves suck, and should be fired in front of everbody. |
