| So I'm watching Cash Cab and get mad when people don't go for the double-to-nothing video bonus question. I get mad because every time I see one, it's extremely easy. If I'm ever in NYC and get that far, I'm definitely going for it! |
Actually, it says SOME contestants are pre-screened - and it's not clear what pre-screened means. I think most of the contestants ARE surprised. |
|
I've seen a few that were insanely ahrd and then some that are insanely easy....depends on the situation.....Just me in the cab and I had about 7-800 bucks....No thanks I'll take the money!! If I have people to split it between and help me then I will take the question |
|
Also, Kahenman and Tversky's Prospect Theory tells us that people are more risk-averse when it comes to potential gains (as compared to potential losses). If you ask people if they'd rather have $500 or a 50% chance at $1000, most people will take the sure thing as opposed to the gamble, even though both are of equal expected value. |

I've noticed that the "official responder" person is always in the middle right seat (left from the camera's perspective looking at the back of the vehicle). The people in the other seats will give their answer to the responder, who will then relay that to the driver. Maybe this rule is edited out when the driver gives them the rules to the show, I don't know, but the driver only accepts answers from that person. It is however annoying when the person not sitting in the seat is smart and the the answerer is an idiot, since every answer is said twice. Every video bonus question I have seen has been really easy. |
I imagine there is a LOT edited out. My guess is that when they agree to the show, not only does he explain rules like the one you mentioned, but my guess is that the crew in the other car probably also have paperwork for the contestants to sign before they can be on the show. |
+1 Same here. |
If the contestants have two strikes, and had to use both their shoutouts to make it, my wife and I are always yelling "DON'T GO FOR IT, YOU FOOLS!!"

A couple weeks ago I was watching it and these two nerdy guys got up to like $1200 and still had several blocks left. I correctly guessed to MrsAJE that they would get all questions right including the video bonus question. I think they each left with 1500 bucks. My question, since most people leave with the cash in their hand, how much of the winnings get taxes paid on it? |

LOL, I thought my hub and I were the only ones that watch this show. Would love to happen upon Ben Bailey and his Cash Cab one day. Not only would we go for the video bonus, but I would probalby ask Ben to ride around the block a few times so we could get more questions Any volunteers for the mobile shout out??? |
Sure, but I want 50% for that question, and if you end with two strikes, meaning my question kept you in the game, I want 30% for each question after mine.

I would imagine the show reports prizes to the IRS... |
That is all...
