Hello.

I would like your thoughts on this matter.

I would like a longslide SA, chambered for 9x19.

I have a previous history with the Glock frame, and it works very well for me.  I am, also, receptive to other suggestions.

I want a toy.  I'm not in the sandbox.  I would like your sickest, most insane variant.

I can purchase, today, a G34, for about $640.

I would like your alternatives.

I have a Glock 34 that I took to Thunder Ranch 2 times for Defensive Handgun 1 & 2.  It ran 100%.

I love it.  It is my favorite go-to pistol.

They are hard to beat.

G34 is hard to beat. The G17L looks sweet, but it is a little more front end heavy.

I have a friend pushing me hard to try one, and I may just give in shortly.

Sick? Here you go:

From their website:

The best redesign ever, the Eagle in a 6 inch configuration!

Built on the patented modular steel frame with polymer grip, the Eagle delivers the traditional features of a 1911 and allows the added benefit of high capacity magazines. The innovative frame design preserves the 17" angle of the grip in relation to the slide, original to the 1911. The essential design element for high capacity, the polymer grip, allows for double stack magazines without over-sizing the circumference of the grip, which remains comparatively the same as the circumference of a 1911.

True to 1911 tradition, the Eagle has a classic scalloped slide with front and rear cocking serrations, STI dovetail front sight and STI adjustable rear sight. The Eagle comes standard with features such as a stainless steel STI hi-ride grip safety and stainless steel STI ambi-thumb safety. It is available with an STI stainless steel fully supported, ramped bull barrel or the traditional bushing barrel. Other options such as finish and sights are also available.

Caliber   9 mm, 9X21, .38Super, .40 S&W, .45ACP
Frame   STI Patented Modular Steel
Grip   STI Patented Modular Polymer
Slide   Classic
Slide Features   STI Rear Serrations
Trigger   STI long curved
Barrel   6.0” STI fully supported, ramped bull barrel
Safeties   Stainless STI Grip and ambi thumb
Guide Rod   STI one piece steel
Sights   STI Front w/ STI Adjustable Rear
Overall Length   9-5/8”
5” Weight   40 oz.
Finish   Blue

You know you want one!
So do I.

I had a 34 for a little while when they first came out.  Had enough muzzle weight so I could keep the bullets in the black damn near as fast as I could pull the trigger.

Wouldn't work with my NDF hicaps.

Rear sight SUCKED!  Your eye is naturally drawn to the sights frame, so unless you go to the hassle of centering it, that could be a problem.

Trigger was nice, but wasn't particullarly accurate.

I have sorta gravitated to the "fear the man with one gun" mindset, and couldn't forsee a circumstance where I'd carry it over my G20.

I paid $450 for it NIB, IIRC.  Sold it for more.

My friend got a Glock 17L recently. It's about half an inch longer than the 34. His came with an adjustable rear sight and ordinary front sight.

With the 33rd mag sticking out of it, the gun looks like a boomerang.

I won a G34 in a GSSF match. it is a very good gun. hard to beat, i don't trust the glock safety so i don't carry it.

between it and my Kimber Warrior, it's a tossup on which is faster, the glock is nice though because of the cheap ammo

You don't trust your ability to keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot?

I was looking at one with a 7" barrel for a can, and yes, it does look like a boomarang.  The slide makes hot handloads (147 grains at 1200 fps) easy to work with on double taps, though.  I am still thinking it over.

I've had it in my head, for some reason, to get a very nice uber-accurate 9mm.  I have a Les Baer Premier II and, stupid or not, paid up for the 1.5" option.  That gun is so smooth, and of course much more accurate than I am...it brings smiles every time I shoot it.

So how do the G34's compare to Baers?  Or, as someone else suggested the 9mm's made by STI?

I've always wanted one.

so, GD has weighed in.

I SHOULD get the G34, and not muck about with a G17 frame, and a caspian top end.

Any last regrets?

I've lived in Mass for two decades or so, then enlisted, now in a free state...so I'm, going a bit crazy expanding my toybox.

Yeah, yeah, I know.

I also took my Kimber 1911 and ran it for a while.

It ran fine.  But I was sure having to manipulate it more (reloads every 8 rounds instead of 17).

What can I say?

The Glock 34 is a heck of a weapon.

when does the M P long nine actually come out?

Also, if I opt for that, what mags do I need?  Are the MP specific, or backwards compatable with other SW pistol series?

I think that they are calling the LS the "pro" series.  At least thats what is on their website.  Not sure of the actual release date but i would imagine that it would be the same mags as the standard length M&P's use.  The M&P pistols use a different mag than other smith pistols do if I remember correctly.

That is on their website.  I did not see the new stuff on there, it might be a few months before they hit the shelves....

ETA:  Its called the 9L.  and it's here:

it was just released so it may be awhile before they are actually out....
