I have a question.
It is illegal for felons to vote, but as far I know there is no background check when one votes. How are they stopped ? Is it easy for them to cheat, but just sucks for them on the off chance they get caught or what ?

You have to register to vote.  When you register your background is checked.

They run a background check on every person who registers ?

How is it then that people get around that and cheat. I hear lots of complaining here about democrats cheating using felons votes.

If you register Republican, your registration is denied.

If you register Democrat, you are given three absentee ballots

Not what I've been told by the fine ladies at the voters registration office. They also told me that they don't check for citizenship..............

Because they haven't 'paid their debt'...

They can't... It's a lifetime stigmata...

They have just paid the part that requires imprisonment...

Please explain how a rapist or child molester “pays their debt to society”… the idea that any violent felon can “pay their debt to society” has to be one of the stupidest concepts known to man.

They ain't paid shit they are just out of jail.

Thats not what the thread is about.

I personally feel they should vote, just curious how the system works.

Remember, not all felons are bad. These days more and more good people are made into felons daily by our "legal" system. I won't even say justice system anymore.

Probably the majority of felons have not commited a violent crime.

They shouldn't be able to vote because they should be six foot under. But that is just my two cents.

FAIL!!!!!  In fact, MEGA FAIL!!!!!

If they think there's a chance a felon might do it again, keep them inside until they're sure they won't.  If that means forever, that means forever.  There'd be a lot more room in jails if we didn't fill them up with 18 year old who half half a joint in their pocket.  There should be two classes, the prisoners, and everybody else.  When you go from prisoner to everybody else, anything the everybody else class can do, you outta be able to.  That means vote and own a gun, IMO.  Does it really make sense to brand somebody a felon for life and deny them the RIGHT to vote or own a gun because they got caught with a few ounches of a plant that grows naturally?  Anybody that thinks ex felons should be branded for life and denied their rights once they're out of jail is a <Do not call names. Bama> who deserves a really hard donkey punch.

If Felons could not vote, then how would the democrats keep the inner city minority vote? It would do no good to give them welfare if they could not in turn vote for you next election.

Last time I registered to vote, all I had to do was show my driver's license to prove that I was who I said I was.  Nothing to it.  I have no doubts that someone could get around the measures currently in place if they really wanted to.

Im more worried about hundreds of thousands of illegals voting for people who want to give them citizenship, medical care, and money than the small(er) number of felons who may vote...

Without threatening any donkey punches ...

There needs to be some differentiation between offenses. Rapists and child molesters are not the same as someone found with some toot in their car, or an unregistered shoelace, for that matter.

Historically, felonies were very serious crimes punishable by death ie murder, rape, treason. A misdemeanor was a crime that was punished by imprisonment but not something you'd execute someone for Some where things got screwed up badly.

In VA a class 6 felony and Class 1 misdemeanor have the same punishment .

The system needs a massive rewrite, after a brutal pruge of all the lawyers and judges in the system that refuse to change their ways.

Some where things got screwed up badly. In my opinion a felony should never have less jail time than the maximum time allowed for the most severe misdemeanor, yet we have them.
