We have a '97 cherokee with the 4.0 6 cyl. It has 377,000 miles on it and I drive it everyday. We bought in factory new. We don't go to off-road competions, but we do drive it through the field and stream and wherever we need to go. So far I have replaced the water pump, the alternator and starter once each (over the last 11 years). I change the oil every 6 monthes. It has never failed to go where and when we need it to. I have been told the inline 6 will last forever. I want to find out. I hop it works as well for you as it has for us! Dan |
| Nice! I got 2 a 95 and 01 and I love em-- People havent figured out that they are THE BEST vehicle for the money that is out there. I see them all day for under 4 grand around here-- In my opinion the new JK is the cherokee returned even better! The commander is a hideous wanna-be cherokee withgout the nuts. Real jeeps have solid front axles!! |
Damn, that's impressive! My Corolla just hit 250k last month, but the clutch is going out pretty quick. Considering it had 250k on the stock clutch, I'll give it a pass. |
| I have a 96 with select-trac, 113k miles, and it is starting to show its age. True to the Jeep nature, mine has been used and abused off road, so it was just a matter of time before things started breaking. For the money they are hard to beat and there is a wealth of parts to throw on to make it stronger. Be glad if your XJ is free of rust; mine spent a few years in MI and the salt killed the underbody. If you plan on keeping it on the road, it should give you many years of reliable transportation. |
Isn't there some sort of under body coating that can be applied for that? |
