The form, dubbed 1040FU, alleviates the filer of any possibility of audits, fines or penalties by utilizing the Services' 'financial underling' enrollment system. Filers simply provide bank account and credit card access information, and the IRS calculates and collects taxes electronically. "This form defines the essence of the Internal Revenue Service's principles." says Lawrence Guilland, Deputy Chief of Form Development. "It separates the filer from the emotional trauma of determining their tax burden, and allows the service direct access to private funds. It's what we've been working towards for 95 years." Initial reaction to the new form has been mixed. "As long as I don't have to add and stuff, I'm all for it." said Val Karnazey, local umbrella salesman and street entertainer. "I usually get money back anyway, so I guess they'll pay off my credit cards for me." "I don't see why I have to get a bank account just because of taxes." said Leonard Jergens, an unemployed typewriter salesman. "I'd rather just not file, as usual." The Service expects revenues to increase 40 to 50 percent when filers switch to the new form. "Our automated tax calculation programs are much more sophisticated than anything on the private market." explained Guilland. "While many filers comb endlessly through the code for pesky tax deductions, there are thousands of opportunities to pay additional taxes that are overlooked. Our program takes advantage of them all." Editor's note: The IRS wishes to remind 1040FU filers that the account holder is responsible for overdrafts and credit limit penalties. |
