The following conversation took place after seeing one of my high school friends with an Obama picture for her facebook picture.  She has not responded, but one of her Obama Sympathizer friends did.  Yes, I want a cookie.

Glad to know that you will happily forfeit some of your paycheck so welfare junkies with six kids will have health care. Obama is for "change," but does he know how he's going to do it or is he going to rely on the starry eyed youth that are so caught up in his public speaking abilities to elect him, or does he really know how to make this country "better?" What is so bad about the best country in the world, anyway? ;)

Nice, photo, haha - isn't Hillary nuts?? Desperate and bipolar if you ask me... Gobama!
Also, don't worry about this 'Michael' character - If that is his real name - people like to cry about tax increases that don't affect them, or how Welfare is bankrupting us ... even though Welfare is less than 1% of our budget. And i'm not quite sure how much more detailed about his platform Barack can be... sounds like Michael just copied and pasted some blogger who's taken the position that good oratory skills are a fault.

You got me. My name isn't Michael  and I've never met Jennifer before, but I didn't copy and paste that message. I'd rather not vote for a Che Guevara sympathizer that won't wear an American flag pin, won't put his hand over his heart during the national anthem, and who wants to over-tax the people that built this country so he can give that money to those that don't work. And why should we hand out amnesty? If we have millions of people on welfare, why are they above doing the work that the illegals do? How about we give the illegal immigrant's jobs to the welfare junkies and send said illegals home? All I ever hear from 20 somethings is how Obama moves them and that he's for change. Last time I checked, emotion and moving speeches weren't requirements for a good president. Policy and voting records are. I won't use Jenn's wall for a political debate, however. It was just a friendly jab from a high school bud.

And just to combat misinformation - try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_federal_budget,_2007 for the actual budget. Looks like 12.7% is for welfare and another 43.3% is for social security, medicaid and medicare. What does this mean? Over 50% of my country's budget will not help me in any way. I pay into social security, but because I pay 20% of my income into retirement I won't get social security and I will be able to afford my own health care rather than getting "free" health care from the goverment.

Had to delete some of your lovely messages, Mr. Michael, but, yes, I will happily forfeit a small percentage of my paycheck so that children can have healthcare. I think they need medicine, vaccines, and a chance at a decent education far more than I need a new Gap t-shirt or fancy flowers at a wedding.

I believe that excellent oratory skills have and do change things. I love the USA and am incredibly happy to have been born in this extremely wealthy, free country, but, yeah, I do think there are a lot of things to make "better".

GObama.

Taking my Gap T-shirt when I work full time to give some kids, whose parents do not work, health care and diapers = socialism. Did you forget that capitalism made this country the greatest country in the history of the world? We can't give free handouts to those that don't work and teach them that they can pop out more kids for a bigger paycheck. We have to draw the line somewhere, because one day the rich won't be able to afford to sustain the poor. Maybe then we can be as awesome as Russia.

Dude,

I appreciate the effort, but you are trying to change someone who has had a religious conversion. Reason and logic are not to be used in this case. Showing someone that they already take 50+%  of their income is not going to move them. The one question that I have had luck with is this, "How much of the average American's income does the .gov have a right to?" The answers are always enlightening.

Kudos for trying, but I think you are tilting at windmills.

She would have been better off at t.u.  Gig 'em!

Edit: Her "religious views" via facebook are "love."  I wonder if she's an atheist or if she is just generalizing religion.

She has no clue dude, but you can never change that type of person. Like you I have been curious the past few weeks about his change, thats all I hear from him is change but how, when, where is he going to change things. I don't understand how you can say you are gonna make change then not say how you are gonna make change, sounds like 2004 we have a plan man that didn't get elected.

look, as painful as this is going to be to both hear and say, it is something we need to come to terms with.

1) america is "ok" with socialism now. it took nearly 250 years to get to this point, but i've never met an american that isn't ok with some level of socialism.

2) a majority of america is "ok" with INCREASING the amount of socialist policy and practice here in the US. and lastly...

3) a majority of america neither understands, nor cares to find out, the ramifications of the aforementioned socialist policy, much of which has been recorded and analyzed extensively throughout history.

Ah, the joys of Obama voters and socialists in general.  When presented with proof they're wrong or differing opinions, they bury their heads in the sand and deny it exists...  or delete/remove/whatever it if they can, threaten you if they can't.

What a bunch of tards... when do I get to use my ammo fort again?

I don't donate to shit anymore.  I won't even give spare change to a bum.  My company tries to get us to donate to United Way.  Call me selfish, but, hey, survival of the fittest.  I don't even care about the children.  That's where most get sucked in.  Health care for the children!!  That's where it all starts.

That's why we have a republic, representative government, and not a direct democracy.
In a republic the govenors are supposed to weigh the needs of the entire body of the people.
Majority rule is not a great foundation for making decisions.  A direct democracy is tyranny of the mob.

The governors have to know that simply handing money out to a majority of people is not good for the country as a whole and not sustainable.  The problem is we have power hungry people in office who increase their power by handouts.  And more and more people standing around with their hands out.
This will ultimately collapse under its own weight.
