[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Neighbor from hell at it again!!!! (Page 1 of 2)

My neighbor actually had the nerve to ask my wife if she could get him a job at her work since he got laid off. After all of the crap he has pulled the last 6 years! The nerve!! Then last week his dead tree fell on our telephone and electrical wires, which run over his backyard. His tree brought down our phone wire in his yard. He came over and told us about it and my father in law went into his yard with a chainsaw and cut the trees from the wires and left them neatly stacked in his yard where they fell. The next day we found the cut wood stacked against our back gate in the alley. I finally saw him today and asked him to remove his debris from our property and he told me he would not and when I told I would have to call the city, he said go ahead, they can't make me do anything. I explained to him that I already spoke with the blight inspector about it (which I did) and that he said they were his responsibility and that it would be brought up at his court hearing for multiple code violations on March 6. He still said he will not move them and to go ahead and call the inspector. BTW, the violations that I reported and he is being cited and fined on are: Dead tree in front yard and multiple dead ones in the back yard. His sump pump and clothes washer drain waste water into our backyard, flooding it with ice in the winter and disgusting water, killing our grass in summer. Our whole lawn is dead. His yard is full of piles of garbage. He has a tarp covering his entire roof. His house needs serious painting. And other numerous violations the inspector didn't elaborate on when I spoke with him last week. He was given thirty days last September to take care of all this and never did. The inspector somehow never followed up on it until I phoned him after the tree incident. And now his dumping of debris on our property, which the inspector sounded pissed about. Do you guys think I should give the inspector a call back and update him on what the jerk said or just let it ride and see if they make him clean it up after March 6? I don't want to annoy the guy, you know. And all of this stems from this jerk refusing to stop his kids from bouncing balls off of my wife's new vehicle and my Jeep, screaming at my kids when they are outside during the day playing, telling us to keep our back porch light off because he doesn't like it, calling the police on me for having my car running in my driveway, and calling the city on us for unmowed weeds in the alley. Plus he threatened my daughter that he would kill my dog because it was barking at him when she was taking her for a walk in our backyard. He didn't do that again after I threatened to beat his short little arse. I hope this screws him over financially so bad he has to move. Karma and messing with the wrong person can be a witch. |

For all the people in my Herby Curby thread, this is why I'm not following 99% of the ideas you have offered on how to get back at my neighbor. I don't need my situation turning into something like this...all over a trash can. Don't worry, her day will come, you will just have to be patient. To the OP, it sounds like the guy has no money to move and would have to take a huge loss on his property to do so. You might just want to suck it up and help him improve his place so that he could move. Who knows you guys might become better neighbors in the process. |
There's no chance of this. He's a sociopath who does not understand the difference between right and wrong. We helped him by cutting the dead trees from the wire in his yard and this is how he repaid us. |
| The first thing I would do is plug up the pipe that is in your yard and have it back up into his house. Second, I would start tossing the wood back into his yard, third I would not only leave my porch light on I would find new places for lights and light them up at night |
No, it isn't. The inspector said he would make him get permits, a plumber, and install a dry well for it to go into, elsewhere on his property, or he will be cited and fined. |
Yep, all of the above. Time to crime light your entire yard. Then when you see him looking out his window walk out on the back porch in your boxers and unload a thirty round mag into the air. Don't forget to post the video to YouTube and leave a link here... ![]() ETA: j/k on the last part, lest you think I was serious. It would be funny to watch though. |
Can't get blood from a stone. If the guy is unemployed and already poor some petty fines from the city aren't going to do anything except piss him off more. He isn't going to pay them, and they aren't going to drive him off. Is he the home owner or a renter? |
We are about to put our house up for the second year in a row. Homes around here are not selling. Especially not starter homes like this one. If we can sell I'll be moving to the country with no neighbors. |
I certainly hope you don't slip on the ice. Any ambulance-chaser would make sure that you owned that house from the resulting slip & fall lawsuit, especially after numerous documented complaints to code enforcement. I doubt you'd be up to re-roofing your new house with your back being messed up from that nasty spill. |

IMHO, sounds like he has nothing to lose, and you are shit outta luck. Even if he gets "evicted" or whatever, nothing will change, as to who is gonna buy his piece of shit property. Even if he leaves, who will move in and make things better for you, at their expense? Who else is gonna do it? You, is my guess. Sorry for your problems. |
call the inspector. call the inspectors boss and ask why no action has happened yet. complain to the mayors office, city council, etc. you have public city council meetings with comments from the public, right?
|
What? |
|
Well I talked to the inspector again and this time he said if I cut them they are my responsibility. WTF?! I had to cut the branches to fix my damn phone line and he allowed us into his yard to cut them. Now I have to dispose of his debris from his dead tree that he piled against my back gate?! Fuck!!!!! |
The best way to dispose of wood is by burning it. How much room is under his gas meter? ![]() The contents of this post are for entertainment purposes only. No gas meters were harmed in the posting of this post. Offer not valid in Puerto Rico. |
Throw it all back in his yard. |
Well, I did and this time the inspector seemed to be under the impression that we may have trespassed. WHich we didn't, the ass asked us to take care of it and stood there while it was done. I'm sure he called the inspector and lied his ass off about what happened. I think I'm going to call back tomorrow and clarify what transpired. |

Shouldn't wish misfortune on a neighbor, but in this case I can see why you wouldn't shed any tears if they foreclosed on his home. Some people are simply jerks and it sounds to me like you're handling this situation VERY well and you should give yourself a pat on the back for being such a decent upstanding human being. Seriously, you're a Saint for dealing with this guy. I'd say just keep reporting his violations to the city officials and if you want go ahead and sue this guy for nuisance and or trespass. Sounds to me like your entitled to damages in a few regards. Don't make it personal though by throwing around rumors and gossip about his financial situation. |
You just got pwned....10 bucks says the guy called the insepctor on YOU! |
I tried this one time with one of my neighbors (chronic alcoholic), his father died and left him the house, made every effort to help him, but he couldn't help himself. Finally got so feed up I got the town after him and he finally sold. Some people just can't help themselves even given a free house. |
I have no violations. I take care of my home. We were in the course of home improvements when the jackass came over complaining that our wire was blocking his car in. |
|
I liked the Yanni idea. Or, you could try using some Barbra Streisand music instead. See if you can find the soundtrack to the movie "Yentl" and play it really loud over big speakers pointed at his house. Back in the 80s, the Pentagon was doing secret experiments to "weaponize" Barbra Streisand music to make enemy soldiers go insane and surrender. They were planning on using it against the Russians. But then the wall came down and the Cold War ended. |
| Even if the tree is your responsibility (I don't see the logic there) you still have a case for all the city code violations he is committing ie the drainage and trash. Apply some boot to city employee ass and eventually they will deal with this guy just to shut you up. Work the ladder, nobody likes to have their boss bitch at them. |
