| Myself and the GF were just having a discussion regarding rape. I would put forth that the vast majority of rape victims are intoxicated. She is not of the same belief. Is there anywhere I could go to figure out who is right? |
That is what I have heard too. Since I highly doubt that there are anywhere near the same number of random rapes where a woman is just walking down the street and gets knocked into the bushes as there are date rapes etc., I am forced to believe that I am right. |
Oh no, statutory rape is not being questioned, also males being raped is not a factor either. We are mainly talking about young college girls, but I would think that my argument would hold true for all adult females. |
| The rape rate among native women is insane in Anchorage, something like 60% of them are raped in their lives. It's not hard to figure out why. A lot of them go out and get blotto, making them easy targets for rapists who are specifically looking for drunk native chicks. |
Just look up the rape statute in your state. Many rape victims are intoxicated when it happens. Women need to be careful who they drink with. And YES, if she's hammered and says yes, there is a possibility that she will claim that you took advantage of her and claim rape when she sobers up. The charge may not stick, but who needs that hassle? That is why I decided a long time ago that I'd never sleep with a drunk chick, no matter the temptation. It has saved me a lot of aggravation. |
The one thing the two of us can agree on is that a girl who is wasted is much more likely to be raped. I am missing your point.

Under several state laws "intoxicated people can not consent to having sex" She is right though, most rapes are forced sex, not sex with a drunk girl....but you are right, the majority of rapes occur with alcohol in the victims system. Under California law, if you have sex with a drunk girl and she then regrets it...you have committed rape. |
I will agree with that, given the first hand (well, second hand I suppose) knowledge I have of the matter. I agree that alcohol plays a part, whether a method of lowering awareness of one's surroundings or administering a drug such as a rouffie. |
Other than the fact that all of the girls I know of who have been raped were drunk or had been drinking, no. My GF was able to cite one girl who was raped without drinking involved. So between the two of us, and all the people we have know to have been raped (that's not a lot, but several) only one incident did not involve alcohol. I know it is not very scientific, which is why I was wondering if anyone knew for sure. |
That is what would appear to be the case for most of those in this thread and the two of us in the argument (whether she will admit to it or not). I am tempted to say case closed on this one. |
Don't know about the stat... However, since having sex with a drunk (unable to consent due to intoxication) partner is chargeable as rape in many places, it's possible... The stats indicate that forcable rape (gun to head, knifepoint, etc) by a stranger is a minority of cases, and that the majority of rape victims knew their rapist personally.... Of course, the stats don't include the women too traumatized to report, who are more likely to be forcibles vs date/acquaintance rapes... |
How much date rape is actually a bad judgement call due to alcohol or drugs? ETA: I consider it "date rape" if one party is significantly less intoxicated than the other party. If you are both equally intoxicated (be it buzzed or blitzed) then nobody is a rapist. ETA2: When I was in college they gave the "Four out of every three women are raped in their lives" talk. One of the things the speakers said was that even if a girl didn't say no, it could still be rape.
