The SUV won't do much good...you'll be creeping along at 15mph because of the other drivers who won't have 4wd.  Tomorrow will be full of fail if you commute anywhere in Columbus during the usual rush hours.

It will take more that 2-4" for me to engage my 4wd.   2-4 is a dusting

2"-4" is considered a winter storm?

We are supposed to get 9" total.
Heck yeah, that's a winter storm.  There is a reason we don't live in the NE or the mountains.

What part of Ohio are you from?

9" on the lake is an inconvenience.

12+ now that's the beginning of a good winter storm.

I live in northern Logan county, west-central Ohio.
Pretty much draw a circle with Dayton, Columbus, and Lima on the outside, I live in the middle.

You know what I expect?  A big fat nothing.  I can't stand how people are freaking out here (on Ft. Knox of all places).  We are even cancelling PT tomorrow.  I can't even remember the times people go through all this gnashing of teeth only to wake in the morning to a little bit of frost.  Its all a waste of time.  I seriously doubt it will be even close to the severity the news says it will, but then I would love to be wrong.

That's what happened the last three big predicted storms here; two went north and one went south; all of them missed us for the most part.
I haven't felt "snowed in" all winter.

we just got 16-18" last week and it stranded 800 vehicles on the highway near madison.

550 or so were semi's. the national guard was sent out. 15 or so humvee's, blackhawks, etc.

they went car to car handing out around 400 MRE's and bottled water

My son, a cadet at Norwich University in Vermont, is (almost) up to his ears in snow with another 5 to 8 inches expected tomorrow night.

The headline reminds me of Simo Hayha, the Finnish Sniper who killed 542 Russians with his Mosin-Nagant.

Did it just come down really quick? I would not think that would be much snow for you guys up there. I know that would be a pain here but nothing too crazy.

I saw probably 15 vehicles off the road in one stretch of highway of less than 15 miles yesterday. There were 4 or 5 tractor trailers that had driven into center median of the highway and become stuck, or driven off the right hand side of the highway. Those guys scare me shitless around here, they just keep going in blizzards until they run off the road or kill someone.

There was also a Hostess Ho Ho delivery truck stuck. I have to admit that I considered looting for a minute.

Many of the cars I see in the ditch on the side of the road are SUVs.  Keep in mind that all 4wd does is get you more traction for accelerating.  It doesn't give you any more control when you're at speed and it doesn't help you brake.

Not really, IT was a big hill that got iced over before the snow fell. I think that it is a extremely LONG hill as well as steep so the tractors would loose momentium half way up and start to slide back down. Not a pretty mess.

Yeah that would not be too much fun at all. I tend to like the winter time but I am really starting to lose my sense of humor about it at this point
