I’ve been thinking about the whole prospect of McHuckaromney as the GOP candidate in November. I’ve listened to the complaining on Rush and here on ARFCOM. I’ve come to the following conclusion…we deserve what we get. We had a real conservative in the race. Fred Thompson was all the Right could ever want and hope for in a politician. He had one fault, he hated to campaign. He put his ideas out there and hoped that the conservative Right would simply be happy with that. He assumed that we, conservative, were higher minded than the shallow moderates and liberals that need the dog and pony show to decide whom to vote for. Guess what, he was wrong. We complained that it didn’t seem like he wanted it enough. We whined that he needed to show more fire. We wanted him to be more like the other candidates. So we rejected him in Iowa and South Carolina. We failed to give more money to the campaign and the conservative talk show host failed to endorse him. So we have no grounds to complain about or choices for a nominee. We had a great one…unfortunately we were far to shallow as a group to lift him to victory. So I say, congratulations conservative Right, you’re going to get politician that is wonderful at rally’s and on the trail, but horrible in office. |

Well, we get what the majority wants. However, that is not the way this country was set-up to be run. IF, the SCOUS was doing it's job, the MAN/WOMAN in office would not have such a dramatic effect on our lives. It is fairly clear that the Republican party has been taken over by more liberal minded individuals. |
Regan wouldn't have gotten the nomination without charisma. That's just part of it. There are many parts of my job I don't enjoy, but if I want to keep it and advance, I will do them with the required furvor. It's not the talk show host's place to tell me or anyone else who to vote for. We listen to them for analysis of current issues and advice. They are not substitutes for independant thought and decision. This is a major difference we have from the left. |

Our two best candidates were knocked out of the race before it started. Jeb Bush was an outstanding conservative governor, but his brother's failures made a run impossible. George Allen, the former governor of Virginia, was a solid and electable conservative, until he blew himself up in 2006. Fred just didn't have what it takes. That is not a condemnation of his character, if anything it is the opposite. |
