Whenever a Garand is in the possible answers, why do you even have to ask?

Get the M1 Garand!

10/22 and a butt-load of ammo.

Get a Garand from the CMP.  It is the only weapon that you will be paying much less than market price for and is guaranteed to increase in value.

Well how accurate are Garands for long range work? I was considering something for long range tahts why the 700 is there. I was considering a Garand for long range also because its semi auto.

Why do you say that? Just because they are being sold quickly and running out. Or because the CMP wont be selling anymore?

Both.  Sure, you can go buy a new SA Garand, but getting a surplus one is more nostalgic.  Trust me when I say there is something to owning and handling that rifle that I just don't get with my other guns. Lots of history behind that rifle.

Whatever the question, Garand is the answer.

Oh i know what you mean. Im a WWII reenactor so i defenantly understand.

How far out can you hit a 12 inch target with a Garand with good ammo? 500 yards? Of course id need practice.

I'd guess it depends on the rifle, since they are all surplus, But I would expect a garand was certainly capable of that.

Well I plan on getting a crappy Rack grade and replacing the barrel and having it refinished (possibly)

I just want to be able to hit targets at distance with this weapon. My AR is for less than 200 and i want this to be for greater than 200.

I'd trick out your AR since it seems to be your "go-to" SHTF rifle.

Get your base of fire where you want it and then push out for new ground.

lol this is going to sound ridiculous to most of you but i try NOT to shoot my AR because i hope to enlist in the Army here soon and I don't want to form bad habits on it. Right now i just dis assemble and clean it as much as i can.

Guess that would depend on what you consider expensive, a decent one can be had for the price of a decent AR round about the 1k range.

Garand IMO.  CMP received my order on 1/31 and I'm checking the e-store every 10 minutes (or so my girlfriend says )
