well it has kinda snowed here in Virginia.  Me being from Florida and lived the past four years in Hawaii am experiencing a problem. My damn lock on my truck door is frozen and locked. How the hell do I thaw it out? I got woman coming over in an hour and my condoms  are in the truck. What do I do???
1/20/2008 5:11:26 PM EDT

Heat your key up with a lighter..... stick it in the lock..... if it doesn't work the first time continue until it works!

Good Luck!

Heat the car key up with a lighter and stick in lock.  In theory the hot key melts ice and you can turn lock.  If it works spray wd40 in the lock as soon as it starts to work to disapate the water in there. (only works some times)

Also I have heated a can of wd40 up in the sink with the hottest water I could get out of the tap.  Let can sit in hot water for 5 - 10 minutes.  Spray into lock with the little red nozzel attached.  Should melt the ice in the lock and disapate the water all in one move.  ( Works better than hot key method but need hot water and wd40 or the like)

Okay get stared

You don't know how to melt ice!?
1/20/2008 5:18:37 PM EDT
[#14]
Walk to a convenience store.  Buy a can of the ice-melt stuff for windshields.  Spray some in the lock.  It should thaw enough so that you can open the truck.  Just in case it doesn't work, buy condoms there as well.

In the future spraying a silicone-based lubricant (NOT WD-40) into your locks in late fall will help prevent this from happening again.

FWIW if you think this is bad, wait until we get an ice storm where you can't even get to the #@*(&(!!! lock because there is an inch of ice coating the truck.

Don't forget you can try both doors with both the key and the hot WD40 method if one does not work.

Sometimes it seams to be the lock but it is actualy the door seal freezes to the door opening.   If this it the case you need lots of hot water and some silicon spray.   Get a couple of gallons of steaming hot water and pour in the opening around the door.  Keep pouring until the heat from the hot water thaws the frozen seals.  When you get the door open dry off the jam and the seal and lube it with the silicone spray.  Will keep it from happening again.

Hints from the north:

from now on when you park your car outside flip your wiper blades out so they don't get frozen to the windsheild and you can stop scrapping your iced up windshield in the morning by just pouring steaming hot water on it then hitting your wipper to clean it off.

Keep your door seals lubed with silicon before the weather gets bad and on a couple of nice days during the winter

Wd40 or silicon your locks a few times a year do a very good job just before the first freeze and a few time before spring. hit the hinges and latches at the same times.

Pretty soon people in Va will be calling you Nanuck of the North

one of the reason i miss the old all metal cars keys is this right here.

on the old ones you could just stick the key in the door and than hold the lighter to it till everything was melted.

You could rub your fingers repeatedly along the key and this will work for getting the key warm enough to thaw out the lock.

Big +1 on the WD 40. After this you should not have the problem again.

I've lived in Northern NY for 18 years, which gets much worse weather than your AO, and have NEVER even heard of a keyhole of a car get water inside and freezing. Are you sure nobody is screwing with you?

You have already been informed as to how you can get the lock working but just in case you can't get the door unlocked here's some more information.
You could always go Commando. If it's an unwanted pregnancy that you are trying to avoid think, Oral. Now if it's an STD any plastic bag and a rubberband could work.

I just have my keyless entry.  No issues!

Well that and a wife who is fixed, so no condom issues.

Just call the chick and tell her to make a stop @ the gas station on the way over.  That will just about guarantee you no pie!

Surprised no one has said though that the cold might not be so good on the condoms, may want to run and grab some new ones anyways.

You would think so wouldn't you but I have been using this as my morning deicing method for 25 years and it has never cracked a windshield.  Note : I just use the hottest water that comes out of my tap so maybe 130 Degrees F or so also note temps here seldom fall below 10 degrees f.  When you have a nice thick Ice layer in the glass this does work wonders.

I just tell my wife to go outside, start my Jeep and put the defroster on.  Works pretty good.

no water if it is going to stay cold or freeze again over night you are just making more of a headache for tomorrow.  Heat the key, use WD both good ideas.  Water is fine if it is going to stay warm, otherwise this will be a continuing problem.

Did you get the condoms?

More importantly did you get to use any?

buy some de-icing fluid...or windshield wiper fluid if you have to...or rubbing alcohol.  if you are really desperate, then pee on it.  force it open...do something...you need your condoms.

but then...you get it and find your condoms are frozen...what do you do then i ask you?

Seems as though that might burn; I'd go with something like KY.
