Hey everyone, new guy here with a few questions. Some of you who frequent GB will recognize me. I've been recruited by a local fugitive recovery agent to join his team. He's done high profile cases for years by himself. Places in Central America, etc. I'm trying to figure out the best rifle for the job. I can get the best deals on Bushmaster rifles and Burris Optics. I've narrowed it down to a couple rifles. Obviously, I'd like to have the 11.5" entry rifle, but I don't want to go through the paperwork and shell out an extra $200 for the stamp. These are what I've chosen.... M4A3 with the 14.5"bbl and permanent Izzy suppressor http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_xm15_BCWA3F14M4IZ.asp Or the Carbon 15 Model 4 which also has the 14.5" and Izzy. http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_carbon15_AZ-C15M4PRE.asp I'm leaning towards the Carbon Model with the raised rail because of it's weight, and rail system. Yeah, killer deals, I know. And yeah, "why not buy both?" Anyway, my next question is, does anyone have any experiences with the Burris Line of red dots and "reflex" style sights? I'm looking at the Fast fire and the two tactical red dots. Thanks to everyone in advance. |

Hope your comfortable w/ the guy behing you in the stack!!! Don't turn around he'll probably be covering the center of your back w/ HIS rifle. Hopefully he has one of the Carbon AR's probably wont work. Seriously, if your like is on the line in no way look at a Carbon rifle. Not very reliable. Ifit were me it would be LMT 14.5. Good size for just about anything 200yrds in. If you plan on entry Burris is not the way to go. Look at Aimpoint. Quick up close, easy to paint the subject on entry, very durable, and can be kept always on w/ no fear of battery issues. Don't mean to be an asshole but I get the impression this is s job you should not take. Dynamic entries are not easy and can go wrong quick. If entries will be what your doing I learn to use a halagan tool proficiently to the point that I could open the door w/ little to no noise. SOunds like training is needed. |

If you don't know that Carbon-15s are junk, and don't know what weapon to use for entry work, don't even get involved in the job without going to training first. It is obvious that you havn't breached a door with a team before, that makes you as dangerous as a 2 year old with a live grenade. Learn before you burn, you only have 1*. |

Huh, what is GB? Personally I wouldn't go within a 100 yards of any deal that involved going after fugitives with a carbine, sounds like a real "Hold my beer and watch this" idea. Anyway sticking to rifles- I wouldn't want either of those rifles. The carbon rifles do not have a great reputation for reliability and you do not want an Izzy brake on a rifle you may be using inside. With the huge amount of potential civil and criminal liability you are taking on with this job I would assume you are being paid very well so spend the money on a Colt 6920 and get a aimpoint or eotech, you'll also want a surefire weapon light of some kind. Do you mind me asking what training you have with carbines? I only ask because "entry work" is a pretty specific skill. Besides the issue of how a non leo without a warrant is going to get involved in entry work without getting into legal trouble, entry teams are (or should be) pretty well trained guys who practice together frequently. I have a fair bit of training with carbines, including a little bit of it involving working as a team, and I would never consider trying to do an "entry" as part of a team." Getting involved in trying to do an "entry" if you and your teammates don't have extensive training and practice doing this kind of work and with each other is a good way to get shot. Full time leo teams still manage to shoot each other doing this kind of work. edit-As far as the burris stuff, I have no experience with it, |
| Carbines indoors, in a central american country, with very lax building codes, and lots of innocents just on the other side of cardboard walls scares me. Luckily you probably won't have to "OWN EVERY ROUND" like we do here in the states. Be Careful, Lots of babies, moms, and ak47's to get in the way. |
Must have been the Me, Myself and I team.  I'm in agreement with aimless, sounds like a "Hold my beer" kinda outfit. As to ar's my preference is gonna be for a 12.5"bbl suppressed. This ain't the place to go Cheap.

I think I've met your buddy, selling beef jerky at the gun show. He told me all about his exploits during the cola wars, but I can't tell anyone any details cause it is all secret and stuff. It's so secret, that his records show that he got a BCD from the .mil as a cover.

They do not 'all work the same'. Some are proven performers, some are riddled with known problems. Get a Colt or LMT. Do you really want to trust your life on something non-standard that is made for civilians? Aimpoint or Eotech for the optic, with back up iron sights. A Surefire or Pentagon light would be a wise choice. A Bush Carbon15 and Burris optic isn't even good advice for someone who will only see the range, it certainly isn't good advice for someone who is depending on the weapon while kicking in doors. |
They all work the same, some work more reliably than others no matter the maker. He should get the one he likes. ETA: His basic question, outside of firearms, is optics, which not many people, including me, have answered. |
Get off my avatar...  As for thr OP, what's your CV? Your post reeks of troll/mall ninja. You are asking about a weapon that you potentially might risk your life with, yet you are asking about the cheapest shit out there... If you are serious, buy an LMT or similar and buy a damn Aimpoint. I, for one, am not trusting my life to cheap disposable crap parts. |
