Duh. That is why I want something that won't rust, that can left in the bathroom without being in a bag. |
I'd assume a stainless steel revolver would do the job best. |
Me too. But all the ones I've seen have a stainless barrel, frame, cylinder... but heat treated carbon steel trigger, hammer, and springs. |
Yep, which is why I mentioned having a stainless gun Melonite treated. Stainless used in firearms is in the 400 series. 416 or 420. Corrosion resistent, but far from rust proof. Dad's stainless Ruger Mark II pistol has rust on the barrel from a fingerprint. |
I've got a Colt Lightweight Commander that I use for CCW. It has a stainless slide. Just sitting in my room here it developed rust spots, thanks to the ridiculously humid weather here. Advice from O_P and a little dab of Flitz fixed it, but it still sucks that it happened. Now I keep it in a padded ammo can, and that seems to be keeping the moisture out. |

I guess to kind of play into the original post, I have an idea. Instead of putting a handgun in a vacuum sealed bag, I think it would be best to put it in a sealed, but loose bag. If the bag was lose enough, you could fire the pistol from inside the bag. Would just need to make sure you could get your finger in the trigger well and pull the trigger. I think the slide cycling during the first shot would be enough to tear it open and allow for further shots. |
For storage, toss in some dessicant. From earlier threads (one of which was my own) Tidy Cats Crystal kitty litter is about the cheapest route you can take. Put it in your oven at 300 degrees for a couple of hours to really dehydrate it good, and seal it in a mason jar before it cools. Roll some up in a coffee filter, staple closed, and toss in your ammo can. |
I'm off to the Rambo store to buy some maritime spring cups. |
