First off just to make things clear i think people should be able to drive whatever they can afford and safely operate.

I saw this "hummers help" commercial and my question is this, are these new hummers anything special as far as off road abilities?  I know the old ones (like what we use in the .mil) are very capable vehicals

anyways I was under the impression that these new hummers are just normal truck frames with hummer style bodies?

The H2's are nothing more than a Tahoe that looks different on the outside...

The H2 and H3 hummers are outstanding offroad vehicles.  Hummers can do a lot that other stock factory trucks cannot.  Not sure about the commercial -- probably feelgood BS.

Check out youtube for some h2 h3 videos and see for yourself.

The reality is most 4x4s will go through your run of the mill snowstorm or minor flooding, but  the hummer will do it better (again vs other stock trucks).

Before the flamewar starts, the stock H3 has 8.5" ground clearance; 40% sideslope capability, 60% grade capability, can scale 16" obstacles and run through 2 feet of water at 5mph (16" water at 20mph).  Nice stats from the factory.

There is a vast different between the hummer and Hummvee. They only share the first 4 letters, nothing more.

You can go places in a hummvee that a hummer can only dream about.

Well, unless you drive an h1

I have and work on Military HMMWV's.

There is no contest.  H2's and H3's are only "WANNABE'S"

H2's &  H3's are for yuppies and liberal feelgood types who want
something that LOOKS MANLEY, but really isn't.

Well I drive an 06 HUMMER H3, and yes I use it quite frequently at the ranch.  No, I'm not afraid the scratch the paint, and I don't have any kids that play soccer, as a matter of fact my 13 year old drives it off-road on the ranch.

The vehicle has very impressive ground clearance, and handles the mud, rocks, and creek beds as well or better than my hunting partner's CJ-7.

I buy my vehicles to use, and use them I do.

It's comical to me that some people bash vehicles and guns, that they have never owned or used.  Perception is reality in some people's minds.  Those are the same types of people who believe everything that they read on the internet.

The HUMMER H2 and H3 share some of the same "cosmetic" features as the HUMVEE, but no where near the capabilities of it.

Heh.  My almost completely stock TJ is about 8 million times more capable.

H3s are nice, but the rear shock-mounts scare me.  H2s are just stupid.  If I wanted to pick a vehicle to help people in minor flooding, it would be an FX4 F-250.

H2 = Chevy Tahoe
H3 = Chevy Coloardo
