What are your thoughts on this website? I have been lurking over there a little bit the past few days and really like it so far. I'm seeing a lot of intelligent and polite posts and threads, which I like. How is the moderation there? Any big scandals of any sort? |
|
I read it for a while when it first started. Then one day I went to the "political" or whatever it is section and, out of 15 topics or whatever on the first page, 11 of them or so were locked for being "off topic" or what the fuck ever. I've never been back. I don't see the point in starting a website and then not allowing people to talk about anything. It's like throwing a party at your house and then taping everyone's mouth shut as they walk in the door. But it's their site to do with as they please. I'm not forced to read it and I don't. |
If you're into actually speaking the truth without a PC sugarcoating, it sucks ass. If you have a tendency to worship certain gun writers, and are willing to gently tongue some "old-time" posters beanbags, you'll have no problems there. |
ditto. Never been back. Fuck fuck fuck fuck. That's what I like about this place. Nobody bats an eyelash. |
Yep, that was pretty much my experience as well - I used to post regularly over there, right up until they decided they didn't want any political discussion. Haven't been back since. |

I used to post over there when Gale McMillan was still alive. The man gave me some very good info when I was building a rifle, even as he was dying. ETA, it was the firing line back then. Then it closed, then went to the high road. Then the firing line came back. (I think that's how it went) ![]() |

The High Road serves it's purpose: It is meant to be a good reference for gun owners. Think of it this way. You are at a gunstore, and you see middle aged woman walk in, and say that she has never before thought about owning a firearm, but is now interested, and wants to know where to get more info. Where are you going to send her? A. Arfcom, where she will be greeted with catcalls, and have to put up with men posting about "SIIHPAPP", "I'd hit it", and "Kick her to the curb" (used when a wife is 5-min late making a sandwich), Or. B. The High Road, where people watch their language, conversations are kept on topic, there isn't discussion about hunting zombies, etc. THR is a good ambassador for gun rights, especially to the media and those who normally wouldn't purchase firearms. Arfcom, well, it's arfcom.

The high road and the firing line are both pretty strict sites. They keep stuff on topic and they don't handle bad language and what not. I believe thr says posts have to be acceptable for art's grandma, so that really cuts down on the bad language and what not. In this part of tn there are several folks you run into on those two boards in real life if you go to the local gun shops and what not. Some have said arfcom is just a bit too harsh or acts "younger" than what they prefer so they stick to the above two sites since they want things on topic and no stupidity or silliness. Then again, some come over here to play games and when serious they post over there or in the areas other than gd here. I belong to them both and have for several years. Both have lots of excellant posts in the ccw forums and lots of knowledge on some specific areas. I just swing by now and then and a few folks email me now and then if there is something of interest that I need to check out. I can't recall any scandals at all. As already mentioned there was the firing line, then it closed and the high road took over for most of those posters. After a while the firing line came back and now we have both. Oleg Volk often gets some pics linked over here and overall both sites have an amazing amount of info and knowledge and I just do not have enough time to spend surfing and reading everything I want to surf and read. |
![]() What good are they then? I've been a member of TFL/THR for longer than I've been here at ARFcom. And I've learned quite a bit from each site. Each one serves it's own purpose. What's funny for me is that TFL and THR are blocked at my workplace, but I can get onto AR15.com without any problems....I wonder if our IT guys are members. |
+1 One of the reasons I always liked this place, it's not too stuffy. Subguns was like the wild west (Marshall Law), Arfcom is tamer but still lots o'fun!. |
